Rancid Editorial Review
In Short
Punk rock may no longer be the threat to social order it was once perceived to be, but it still speaks to teenage discontent as strongly as ever. The tireless popularity of California's Rancid is a case in point. The band, spawned in 1991 from the ashes of seminal ska-punk cross-breeders Operation Ivy, sports a catalogue of workman-like anthems (The Clash casts an especially long shadow) that continues to sell to new generations of suburban rebels. 2003's "Indestructible" (Hellcat/Warner) says it all: Fast, furious and carefully presented.
