Affordable, authentic, and awesome Spanish tapas place. When you hear people speaking Castillano, you know it's going to be good!
Hit or Miss. I debated rating this restaurant as average, but their good dishes make up for shortcomings. Their seafood combination was delicious with scallops and calamari (two things that are easy to mess up) being prepared perfectly. The Japanese eggplant fell short by having some pieces cooked through while others were a bit undercooked. Oh, and vegetarians beware. We found one stray pork rib in this dish, which was a delicious surprise for us but maybe not for you. The spicy potatoes are good, but I tasted them for the rest of the night and a little bit into the morning too. You have to LOVE garlic to think they are good. The sangria is also worth getting. As for decor, it's a fun atmosphere but on a cold night most of the tables will be hit by the draft from the door. Its an unfortunate result of the building's structure.
Phenomenal Food. I've been to this restaurant 3 times now, with medium to large groups and not one of us has gone away without raving about the tapas. We're talking the best in the city, and I have shopped around. While the ambience is nice, and the service is fine, the food is what really makes an impression. Once you've been there, you WILL go back to share this place with friends and family. And the parking garage down the street is reasonably priced, too, which takes the hassle out of eating in the Mission.
Recommended For the Tapas.
But not for the paella! It came out extremely dry, not surprising since it takes 30 minutes to make. The calamari tapa, however, was delicious!
Service was very friendly.
Great value. Couldn't get into Andalu on the corner, so went to Picaros instead. Had a easy 15 minute wait to get in w/no reservation Not as 'trendy', but potato appetizers were great as well as all our dishes, and the price was very reasonable. About half the price of the trendy , and almost as good.
Great tapas!. The sangria is great, too. The portions are larger than most of the other places, and the prices are reasonable, too.
Great Food. I love garlic so this was the place to be. I ordered a garlic soup and it was the size of a medium size pizza. I also ordered the garlic chicken and it was mmmm mmm mmmm. And since you're here might as well order the spanish beer. Oh yeah the mussels are great too....of course its topped with garlic.
Best Spanish Tapas in SF. Tapas in some form abound in our fine city, but our supply of good old-fashioned Spanish tapas is severely limited. Average places like Esperpento, Ramblas and ThirstyBear give way to the truly bad... Timo's. If you want the kind of tapas that came before "small plates" were all the rage, Picaro is your place. They've got the traditional fare, and they do it well, in a fun atmosphere for groups and at reasonable prices. None of this would be that big a deal were we not so bereft of real tapas options, but Picaro stands out for filling the gap.
Awsome!.
This place is fabulous! I called this place at the last minute for a large group after a disastrous attempt to dine at Andalu just up the street.
The staff here are courtious, and fast, some of them don't speak English very well but that is really all I can complain about! They made my last birthday a very happy one. The food is excellent, the prices very affordable and the servings enough for 4-5 folks to get enough of each dish when you share.
Good atmosphere and fast seating. Not the best tapas in the mission but we were seated promptly (10 minutes) at a table for two, whereas some of other restaurants in the area were not able to do the same. I recommend the patatas omelette. The sangria was good and it seemed like there were a lot people going there to do birthday parties. Decent ambience.
Excellent food & great B-day place!. Friday & saturday night marriatchy band comes in a few times throughout the evening - great for birthdays and large parties! food's delicious & good pricing - I love that place - especially their sangria & patatas bravas!
