The Appeal
Offering sandy walks along the ocean's fingers, as well as trails on the cliffs above, this old military lookout provides a great view of the San Francisco and San Mateo coastlines. Hang gliders are drawn here for both the strong winds and the thrilling descent over the Pacific. Also, expect to see scores of dogs--it's a haven for dog walkers.
Features
The Sunset Trail is a paved 45-minute loop. From the main parking lot, face the ocean and take the paved trail to your right, which will take you on an approximately two-mile circuit. To walk down to the ocean, start off in the southwestern corner of the parking lot and find the two wooden fence posts, which mark beginning of a 180-foot descent to the beach.
