Best of Value Indian Restaurants – This is our fave "value" Indian restaurant - comparing to Naan'n'Curry, Pakwan, Shalimar, etc. Definitely seems to be the cleanest of them, good service, and very tasty food. Also a good intro place for out-of-towners who have never eaten Indian. Yes, there are some traditional Indian restaurants that are better, but for pure value and an easy meal, it's hard to beat Chutney.
The Best Indian Food In The City – I started eating here when they first opened, because they had no business and I can get my food quickly. Turns out the food is fantastic, better than the other local places. I must not be alone in my thinking, because these days there's usually a line to get a table. We have many visitors from Singapore and other parts of the world, and we bring them to Chutney. In fact, we usually dine in groups of 10 or more when visiting. Meat or veggie, I love everything on the menu. We usually order a variety each time and we share. Our only consistant is biryani, my wife's favorite. One plate can feed 2 people. One word of warning to spice wimps...The food can often be spicy, so speak up if you can't handle it. Also, try a Salaam Cola while you're there. I love this place!
Yum – I don't know why anyone wouldn't like this place. This is if not my favorite place to eat, at least in the top 3. The food is great. Try the smoked eggplant curry with nan first, then work your way through what every catches your fancy.
I rated the service a little low, but this isn't because it's bad or slow, it's just more lunch counter style. You order at the counter, then put a number on your table. Tea is self serve. This can be looked at as a plus because it brings the price down on the food without compromising quality.
Lousy Food – The food is really lousy. The owner things making it full of garam masala is good. Its very very bad. Made us wait for 45 minutes before we got our food. Service is arogant specially the person on the counter. Food is bad. I would prefer food from Shalimar which is just across the road any day to this crapy food. Never will be there again.
incredible value – Cleaner, cheaper, and friendlier than Pakwan, and I found the veggie curries to be much more complex tasting. Highly recommend!
Another great, cheap restaurant – Chutney is a terrific place to go grab a bite to eat before going to the Theatre. Cheap, great atmosphere (I'd say better than the other good Indian/Pakistani restaurants on the block), and great food. It's self service like the others are where you order at the counter, get your plates, napkins, silverware and drinks and then you're served the food at the table. You don't have to clean up after yourself. Also, the biggest plus is that they deliver as well for orders over $25. And the owner/manager, Asaad, is very friendly.
