Now my hair is curly!.
I will admit it, I have serious hair envy.
I'm always looking at other girls hair and wishing my hair could be like theirs.
I go to Anna, my hairstylist at Acquabella on a monthly basis and ask her why my hair can't look like so and so, or so and so. I bring her clippings. And every time, she explains to me why, or the amount of work it would take to make my hair look like said persons. And then I realize that I'm not willing to do that.
But on a recent trip, when I was envying someone with body and bounce and natural looking waves in her hair, Anna looked at me, and said, "You know, it can be done. You could get a digital perm, over at a salon on Clement Street. I don't do them, but they could do it."
I know what you're thinking. A perm is SOOOOO 80s. You're thinking spiral rods, and tight little curls a la The Breakfast Club and Molly Ringwald. But OOOOH No.
If you go to Yo Yo Hair Salon and ask for Mary. She will NOT do that to you. She will give you a digital perm, the newest thing. And instead you are going to walk out with a full body of hair and curls looking more like Jessica Simpson when she was in her prime. Big loose waves, not tie little ringlets. And for us Asian girls, that is a miracle, because if you are Asian you know our hair doesn't do that very well.
All for a mere $200 and in a mere 5 hours.
Not a bad price to pay for 4 months of beautiful wavy hair and body in my hair.
Especially now since I feel like I wake up every morning with starlet hair.
Yes a miracle has happened. My hair that used to be flat and not hold a curl, even on my wedding day, after being hairsprayed and curled for 4 hours, now has curl!!!
WORST SALON EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I came to Yo Yo Salon based on the good reviews listed here on citysearch. I thought I'd give it a try and see for myself. I went in asking for a TRIM and LONG layers and ended up with layers starting just below my ear lobes! I was MORTIFIED! My hair was originally long, a few inches below my shoulders and I left the salon with hair way above my shoulders. The stylist did NOT listen! I told her specifically that I was growing out my hair and that I wanted long layers, I even brought in a picture. But she got scissor happy and chopped off 5+ inches! I've never ever in my entire life gotten a hair cut that made me cry. I even told the stylist that she was cutting too much off and that the layers were too short, but she didn't listen and rolled her eyes and dismissed my complaint! I've never had this experience with a salon before and I will never ever go back to this salon. I am so traumatized by this experience. It will probably take me at least 2 years to grow my hair back to its original length. I am sooo disappointed and angry by this salon.
One of the greatest salons around town....
I have been going to YoYo since the day they opened. A salon that's both trendy & classy at the same time, and caters to people of all ages. Simon, who's my hair stylist, as well as the owner of the Salon, does a wonderful job. He not only has the skill behind the scissors, but also within a conversation - someone who truly listens to what the client wants. I've introduced him to many friends, and I can honestly say they wouldn't say anything otherwise.
I'd say if you haven't visited YoYo yet, stop by sometimes! If not for the service, at least for the friendly smiles!
He knows what he's doing. I came here on a whim looking for a fresh hairstyle that fit my headshape. Simon is the person to talk to. They were able to fit me in on a busy friday and they were able to accommodate me with one of their stylists. Upon my arrival, I was immediately greeted and asked if I would like anything to drink while Simon was attending another client. Once in the chair, he asked me what I had in mind and I also wanted his input, which was very helpful. His vision for cutting and styling hair was amazing. At the end, my hair looked great and I received numerous complements. Simon is a well-traveled man who's been styling hair for 20 years. He definitely knows what he's doing.
A customer of Simon for the last 5 years. Simon has been my hairstylist for the past 5 years, even before he opened his Yo Yo hairsalon store. He is really great at haircuts, especially for short hair. My hair grows out in really good shapes, even after 3 months. The one thing I don't like about Simon is that he is not that great with hair coloring.. I've done highlights and coloring with him three times and he never gets the shade right and my hair always comes out looking a little brassy... but he is great at cutting hair!
Editorial Review. Richmond beauty salon offers traditional cuts, color and thermal reconditioning to straighten hair as well as digital perms (thermal reconditioning curl treatment).
Mary is GREAT....go to her for highlights. Granted I have only gone once but I think Mary is awesome. I went to get my hair highlighted based on friends recommendation & the lady knows what she is doing.. She is very professional & skillful in what she does.. I have gone to other more expensive trendy spots in to get my hair highlighted and have never walked out with the confidence that my hair will come out good..Being Indian I was worried she would not do a good job on the color which would go well with my skin but since I got my highlights I have gotten MANY compliments... My advice would be to go see Mary if you are interested in streaks or highlights whether it be funky or tame.. Just be sure to know what kind of color you want.. They are pretty affordable for the service they provide.....
simon is great. after seeing my friend with a hip, stylish and unique haircut, i decided to go ahead and try her stylist (simon) at yoyo. and since all these other reviews rave about paul who i haven't had touch my hair, i wanted to give some love to simon who is an expert with my hair. maybe it's that we're both asian or that we both have the same style...but he manages to not only take the weight off my heavy, thick black hair, he makes my hair look amazingly contemporary. i've even gotten the approval of the mission hipsters. even my stylist who's at another salon and only deals with my color loved my haircut. every cut i've received from simon looks just as good as it did 3 months after the cut. you know he's a good stylist if a hairstyle can last past 3 months.
Fantastic perm by Paul.
I've always wanted to try Yo Yo salon and based on the reviews here, I asked for Paul. He is the greatest. I simply wanted curly hair and asked for a perm. When he unraveled the curlers..boy was I surprised. He gave me the most full body waves/curls ever. It's like those curls you see in magazines..sexy waves galore! This is definitely not your grandma's perms. I am serious..I was really surprised and pleased. Paul knows what he is doing without you telling him much. Trust me, you'll be in good hands.
The salon is bright and airy. No strange smells here. The staff here are nice and will refill your tea, coffee and like the other reviewer said, they really do have the most updated and expansive collection of magazines.
GREAT PALCE>>GOOD STYLIST. I got my Hair Cut at Yo Yo Salon recently after i check out the reviews from CITYSEARCH. The Hairstylist that cut my hair is PAUL. I would like to say I'am always nerves on getting my hair cut or change a new look, but now I have to say not anymore. THe look turn out great and it is the way I want it which it match my face shape. Also Paul gives many feed back and recommondation on how to treat my hair because i have split ends. Next time i will try other kinds of styling at this salon and also recommend to my friends. Sometime it is better to make an appoinment and walking in is okay too.
