yummy in the tummy, but a pain in the pocket. food was good, service needs to be better and last but NOT least...too pricey for what it is

Hawaiian BBQ at its best!. This place is AWESOME! My b/friend & I went there yesterday for a late lunch & I ordered the Kalbi Chicken, he got the Teriyaki Steak...they were both delicious! I've always enjoyed Kalbi so being my first time there I figured I'd "play it safe" & order what I like...my b/friend's teryiaki platter was waaaaay better than mine. It's a "different" teriyaki...a BETTER teriyaki than what most of us are used to tasting. It was fabulous.

My kalbi was VERY yummy also but I recommend their teriyaki over the kalbi. We got the "medium" sized plate w/2 scoops of rice & 1 scoop of mac salad. The rice was a little "wet" for my taste but definitely not bad in any way. Their mac salad was yummy too! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRYING THEM OUT! A little pricey but well worth it for the portions & LEFT OVERS! YUM!!!

User review by grvqn. My boyfriend and I spent the night at Half Moon bay and our first place that we ate at for dinner was really BAD!! So for lunch we decied to check out Ono Hawaiian. The food was so good and the service was great! I had the pull pork and it was so tender! I would go back again!!!

ono's is onooooooo!!!. luv the food.......ooooooonoooooo!! i haven't been back to the islands in years, but this place just takes u there the second u sink your teeth into their food!!!! great for people with families...its great!!!! luv the ribs, poki, everything was great...mahalo!!!

Amazing food, better than most on Hawaii even. This restaurant is a gem among gems. Don't expect ambiance - it's extremely casual, a place for surfers to slosh into with trunks and flip flops. But the food... after going to Kauai and Maui for years on end, rarely have I had traditional Hawaiian food so good before without paying double or triple the price. Their seafood is simply excellent. It is 5-star restaurant quality, and prepared as such. The kahlua pig is succulent, flavorful, simply perfect. Like the backyard BBQs I've been to on Maui, which is 10 times better than the tourist luau stuff. And we've had nothing but friendly and attentive service; maybe the other reviewer was there on a bad day. In fact we're having our wedding rehearsal dinner at Ono. Mahalo Ono Hawaiian Grill!

Drive away.. 1st issue - I asked the waiter to change my macaroni salad to a green salad (it's written as an option in the front of the menu) . He even asked for my dressing. However, the salad never appeared. We suspected that coz I ordered one of the Specials, maybe it didn't come with a macaroni salad. We weren't charged for the salad so I let it go.

2nd issue - We also ordered Yakisoba w/tofu. When it came, the waiter told us flippantly that there was no tofu (no apologies!). When the bill came, we were CHARGED with the tofu. When I called him, he quickly came and said that he will take the tofu out even before I asked him. Beware, the bill is handwritten so it's unclear and garbled.

3rd issue - The food was bland.

Simple Excellent Food. If you are looking for some comfort food, this is the place. Great service and food make the beginning of a great evening. The BBQ ribs are the best! 3 different portions depending how much you can eat... Salmon is excellent as well. Get the appetizer "Poki Poki" - Ahi Tuna Salad... EXCELLENT. Great for families and kids. Get there early, wait is about 30 minutes.
