Cheapest, smallest and thinest sushi I have ever tasted in my life

by Bearwithbeerisnofear at Citysearch

I am originally from Sapporo, Japan where the best town for the most foods(especially seafood).

I am telling you IF YOU LOVE SUSHI PLEASE DON'T GO because you will be disappointed unless you are drunk(well, the restaurant located around many bars).

"Neta"(Row fish on rice=sushi) has very little "umami" so that you won't taste anything but rice.

Umami is a taste that is characteristic of monosodium glutamate and is associated with meats and other high-protein foods. It is sometimes considered to be a fifth basic taste along with sweet, sour, salty, and bitter.

Sushi Chefs are not experienced. The way they cut sashimi(sashimi is the same as Neta but Sashimi indicates by itself and Neta is always on rice) and made rolls, it appeared to me that they were just hired as sushi Chefs trainees.

Kitchen foods were more than average. Serves was good.

I felt like I spent $28 in Chinese Buffet which usually charges $8.99.

If you happened to be there, get some sakes and something spicy rolls or kitchen foods.

If you can avoid this place please do and go somewhere else.

A TIP to real sushi lover

Good sushi is composed of goor rice and good fish.

Good rice is cooked and cooled off properly with vinegar.

Good fish has enough amount of umami.

  • Pros: if you are upset about foods, you can go to bars in a minute, then you will be happy.
  • Cons: the sushi quality is like Chinese Buffet

Worth a try for all-you-can-eat

by raylikesfood at Citysearch

When I read the reviews for this place on this site, I was a little worried by the negative comments made by some people. However, after my first visit to Sushi Hunter, I'm happy to say it was a pleasant dining experience. It was a slow night with only 4 other tables sat. While not the biggest or most exotic all-you-can-eat menu, it definitely had some winners on it. The tuna, albacore, yellowtail, salmon and seared tuna were all very fresh and delicious. The seaweed salad was also tasty. I particularly enjoyed the gyoza. I ordered 3 different rounds of food and each dish came within a reasonable 10-15 minutes. My only concern for the dinner was how the fish were cut and prepared for the nigiri. The fish looked like they were cut in a rush with a dull knife, which caused some pieces of fish to appear torn. As an avid sushi eater, I like my nigiri to look whole and fresh. The service was good with friendly servers. At $22.95, its a good deal for decent quality sushi. I'm definitely going to try this place again.

  • Pros: Prices, service, nice dining room
  • Cons: Sushi preparation appeared rushed

Don't go Hunting here, ok sushi

by rhane at Citysearch

I didn't go in expecting much because they had an "all you can eat" menu. But I ordered from their regular menu and got the Philly Roll, Spicy Scallop and a specialty roll I have never heard of but sounded good. The portions were about par for the price but the quality was not more than a 5 on a 1-10 scale. The worst part was the Scallops were "fishy" and anyone that eats raw fish on a regular basis would know this is turned (bad). But I shouldn't fault the whole experience on one roll. The service was good and the staff was very pleasant. The atmosphere was fine. But I won't return.

  • Pros: Service
  • Cons: Food

Great sushi at a great price

by seb33 at Citysearch

This place has nice, fresh sushi, and an extensive all-you-can-eat menu that includes most popular sushi items as well as appetizers, soup and entrees. I always bring friends there, and have yet to be disappointed. The restaurant has a nice decor - including a great plasma TV. And they deliver for free! (at least to locations in N Beach - not sure about other neighborhoods).

  • Pros: Great food, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff
  • Cons: Service can be a bit slow
