Editorial Review for El Metate – by Jennifer Joseph
In Short
El Metate's enormous burritos push the boundaries of the standard Mission taqueria. Freshly steamed tortillas are stuffed with unusual fillings, such as a vegetarian melange of freshly sauteed zucchini, carrots and broccoli, and the shrimp special, a blend of beaten egg and chopped shrimp, topped with nopales in a spicy red sauce. Traditionalists will enjoy the twice-cooked pork carnitas, which are tender yet slightly crispy on the edges. A steady stream of locals bustle in front of the open kitchen, picking up takeout orders, while others eat in at tables in their large dining room.

We had amazing fish tacos and quesadilla here and wouldn't mind having more. : ) Parking was a bit laborious but this spot was definitely worth it. Don't be fooled, for the handicap entry there are another set of doors that can accomodate someone in a wheelchair..
Cons: Parking

Ok, I've only been here once, but it was fantastic! Great nachos...but that's not too hard....and the BEST pork tamale I have ever had! Normally tamales are light on the fillings...but not here. Plus, you can't go wrong with the prices!
Pros: Best tamale ever
Cons: none
