Editorial Review for Bambuddha Lounge – by Citysearch Staff

The Scene
Leave the gritty Tenderloin surroundings behind and enter a sultry South Pacific paradise with a modern edge of sophistication. In the off-white dining area, designer chairs, cushioned benches and cube-shaped stools surround sleek, cherry-wood tables. In the soft-lit cocktail lounge, DJs supply beats as young city dwellers hobnob around the circular bar, which is frequently crammed to capacity. This isn't a dance club, but patrons don their most fashion-forward outfits as they lounge around the outside pool, flanked by bed-like cabanas, bamboo stalks and heating lamps.

The Draw
During the week, the dining room hosts couples sharing Asian-flavored small plates. A decent standout is the sweet and crunchy, eight-element salad wrapped "la lap" leaves. Outside, hotel guests and groups of 30-somethings sip aromatic Guavapolitans. Come Friday evening, this place attracts a see-and-be-seen clientele who pay a cover charge to pass through the velvet ropes.

Smells of damp as soon as you walk through the door. The food was fairly good and our waitress was very friendly (hence the 1 star). But it's a bare room trying to look cool with a couple of cushions and mirrors! It's a hole trying to be pretentious with a roped off bar area which consists of some plastic cushioned bed things, and the music was bad. It's attached to what looks like a cheap hostel. The area is really bad as well and would not advise anyone to walk alone at night there. Go if you can't find anything else open late but don't expect too much.

It was my first time at this place and it was a bad experience. We went there utilizing the lounge area for a friend's birthday gathering--we didn't go to the restaurant area. We took advantage of their online guest list system to save some money, but right when we arrived at the door they said they don't have or not received the list from their employees. They had some sort of list but didn’t even to bother to check for our names, because they claimed they never received the internet guest list. So we paid full price for about 20+ cover charges. We think it was just a way for them to make money because it was a slow night, but that’s up to the public to decide. Once in the lounge it was an okay setup—couches and beds but not large enough to accommodate large crowds. The circular bar setup seem to be logically design to serve guests from all angles, but yet another disappointment. Maybe due to inexperienced bartenders or the circular setup confuses them, but the service was very slow—especially for a slow night. We tried to make the best of it—drinking and dancing. All and all it was a disappointing experience. And you know how business goes, if they leave a bad first impressive the consumers are not likely to come back—we are definitely not coming back nor would we recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a decent bar where a few of their friends can have a good time. -Shady Guest List -Slow Services -Small Size
