Never again!. My experience here was so bad that I just had to get online and share it with others so that who ever reads this will think twice about going to this place. Me and my wife are from Houston and we've loved eating crepes for the last 3 years before we moved to the bay area. Tonight we hopped online and researched for the best crepes cafe in the bay area, and sfgate had Cafe Grillades rated #1 by readers in 09 and 10 so we thought this would be a great place to try. It was either this place or the number 2 ranked Squat and Gobble so we chose Cafe Grillades. We drove all the way from South San Jose in the Los Gatos area to try this place simply because it was supposed to be number one and it was most certainly not in our opinion. It was a disaster.

I ordered the New York Crepe, my wife ordered the Poulet Crepe. My steak was charred black and my wife's chicken was charred as well. The manager came over to our table and asked us "How was everything?" I told him that our crepes tasted burnt and he said that it was supposed to be that way because the meat was thin. I then proceeded to show him that one side of the meat was totally charred and crusted while the other side was brown, but he didn't seem to care. He then asked if there was anything that he could do and I replied, "Yes, can you fix us crepes that down have all the charcoal on the meat?" And he replied with no he can't do that and asked if there was anything else he could do? And I replied, if we can't get meat that isn't burnt then there probably isn't much else he can do for us. He then ended the conversation. We both were sorely disappointed with our meals but we finished them anyways. We then ordered desert from the waitress... We got the Strawberries and Nutella crepe. The strawberries were supposed to be served warm and cooked into the crepe, but when we got it and stared eating it, the strawberries were ice cold and very undesirable to eat. We told the waitress who told the manager who obviously didn't care because he didn't even come back to the table. The waitress brought us our check, we paid... I left a note on the receipt and handed it to the manager in his before we left and didn't even bother reading it. He just threw it down and went on about his business.

If this is what San Francisco considers the number one crepe place in the bay area, I am appalled. It's been a long time since I had a experience in a restaurant this bad and I'll never be going back to Cafe Grillades. Others may have had a good experiences but we certainly did not, and even still, we should have been treated better than that. After all, we are paying customers, but are treated as if we are just supposed to accept what they have to offer, good or bad. I seriously hope other people don't have a similar experience. Do yourself the pleasure of being treated to better food and service elsewhere. You have been warned.

kick butt lentil soup, kebabs, and strawberry crepe broule. we've gone here quite a few times over the past 6 months and just recently we've found their shining star, strawberry crepe broule. this is a fabulous dessert to share with friends

in fact, i was talking to my friend in SF and as she talked about having a dessert crepe craving for the past couple months; right then, the both of us said "strawberry crepe broule." i'm guessing the SF Cafe Grillades is just as good as the San Bruno branch.

oh yeah, the lentil soup and lamb kebabs are pretty darn awesome too.

updated note!!! drove for 20 minutes just to get a nice, lite dinner here and the doors closed 30 minutes before their posted hours of operation stated. employees were inside sitting down, the seats were on the tables, and when we pointed to our watches to express that it's not closing time yet... they pointed at the "Closed" sign. that experience earned them a drop from a 4 to a 3 in our books.
