Charming Place-Great location. Great location near Union Square-close to shopping, fine restaurants, theaters. Cozy rooms, coffee bar and Kulletos Restaurant located in the Lobby. Friendly helpful staff.

Top Choice. Lovely room, impeccable service and charming lobby/restaurant. We needed some extra help since we had our dog with us and were holding a meeting in the hotel. At every turn, the staff took extra pains to help us and smooth our path. Rooms are not big, but more than adequate. This is our first choice for a San Francisco small hotel.

Charming, great location, recommend for a vacation visit. We had what I think is one of the larger rooms (#601- w/ 2 double beds and room for a roll away), a corner room overlooking the Powell/O'Farrell intersection. There was street noise, but except for the cable cars, no more than you would experience in any downtown hotel in SF or other city. The room was very clean and ours looked as if it had been remodeled recently. I had called ahead for a roll away and was quoted half their usual daily rate. When we checked in they were going to charge the higher rate. When I explained the phone call, the clerk conferred with her supervisor, apologized and charged the lower rate. This was a family vacation, so my sister, and my brother & sister-in-law were also staying in the VF. Each had rooms with king beds, but the rooms were small. The lobby is charming with frescoes, comfy seating, and it overlooks Kuleto's restaurant. In the a.m., it was a great place to plan our daily explorations over complimentary coffee. The wine tasting was a nice way to begin the evening after freshening up. The location between the Powell/Market cable car terminus (& BART station) and Union Square gave us an opportunity to interact with a very interesting cross section of society. We found the staff to be friendly, accommodating, and most helpful. The concierge bent over backwards to take care of our requests. Because of the location, its quirky charm, and character I would recommend it for a vacation stay. However, I don't think it would be near the top of my list if I was traveling on business.

The Italian Renaissance lives on in this beautifully restored hotel.. In Short
Find Italian grandeur of the highest order at the 183-room Villa Florence Hotel located on Union Square. High-ceilinged bedrooms feature warm colors with a metropolitan flair. Cosmetic refurbishing in the public areas highlights the columnar entrance, Giotto-style wishing fountain and two Italian Renaissance-inspired murals. From 5pm to 6pm daily, the lobby wine bar serves guests complimentary tastings of Italian vintages.

unbelievably bad service. i am still in shock from the absolutely horrendous experience i had at this hotel. i cant believe this is a kimpton property. the rooms are cramped, the bathrooms dreadful, the beds uncomfortable, the noise from the streetcars on Powell completely over the top, and the serivice, well, jawdroppingly bad. the valet lost the keys to my rental car and proceeded to spend the next hour melodramatically checking his pockets and rifling through drawers and making excuses and acting like i had seriously inconvenienced _him_. at one point, he actually suggested that i pay for a tow truck for the car and then submit the receipt (!!). and this wasn't the only issue. i would write more, but i am too exhausted from this ordeal. my advice: avoid this place at all cost.

Even the location can't save it.... Tiny rooms. Even tinier bathrooms. VERY noisy if you get a room facing Powell--regardless of what floor you're on. I do NOT recommend for business travelers. The "free hi-speed wireless" Internet connection they promised never worked, and I couldn't get anyone on the staff to care.

There was a major mess-up with my room (not going to go into details here), but it was the staff's fault, and they were completely unapologetic. I've stayed at other Kimpton hotels before and been happy. This one was a BIG let-down.

nice hotel, unpleasant location. friendly, professional service. room as advertised. interesting architectural details. excellent food in both coffee shop and restaurant. right on cable car line. however, the Union Square area is over-run with agressive panhandlers. unless you have business at the convention center, stay in another part of the city.

This hotel is not recommended. Villa Florence lost our reservations and was not at all helpful finding us other accomodations. The staff was rude not only to us, but to other guests as we observed during the 2 hours we sat in the lobby trying to find another hotel with an available room. I would not recommend this hotel.

Funky for Union Square. This hotel has a great location but the rooms are small and rather funky compared to other hotels in the area. I'd give it 2.5 stars at the most.

A good value hotel.. If you are looking to stay in San Francisco for a good value, the Villa Florence may be for you. It is a nice hotel, but the rooms are small, and the bathrooms are also very small. It is not a bad place, but definitely not one of the nicest in town.
