$2 Tuesdays!. City Tavern is pretty much the only triangle bar I will go to. It's a decent, dive bar. The best part about this place is $2 Tuesdays. For $2 you can get draft or bottle beers, house wine, and a select menu of food until 10pm. They also have $3 cocktails. Last night I ordered a personal pizza, an order of fries and 3 glasses of wine and it only came to $10!!! You can't beat that!
nice pub. An earlier writer referred to the surly bartender. That's Chris. If he's there when I come by, I turn around and head to Union St. If Jason or Micah are working, it's a great time. Good beer, and good value on the food during happy hour.
Not coming back. Indifferent, lame a-s bartender left me sitting there on a Friday night for an eternity before he took my order. Tried to make polite conversation with him later and he had the personality of a lizard. It was the only bar in the Triangle that wasn't crowded (wonder why..). Of course, when a couple local chicks came in and sat next to me, he was Mr. Service. Cheesy....the bar staff in the Marina only seems to be interested in locals, or chicks. If they haven't seen you before, wear a jacket made of Christmas lights cuz it will be hard getting their attention. If you walk in and see a 'bartender' with short, Opie Taylor red hair and wannabe tattoos on his arms, turn around. On second thought, do your drinking in North Beach, the barkeeps are way more attentive and friendly.
Great Local Hangout!. I'm a City Tavern regular, but only on the weekends or Tuesday nights, etc. On Monday I brought my Mom (visiting from out of town) to City Tavern to try one of the Mango Margaritas we saw advertised in their window. What a fun night! The whole Marina was quiet that night so it took a little while to fill the place, but we had such a great time. Bartender Jason was incredibly attentive chatting it up with us while aptly blending the most delicious margaritas filled with fresh chunks of mango and tasty tequila. This was definitely the softer side of City Tavern, and compared to an awful Fri. night getting screamed at and shoved by the bouncers of Eastside West, City Tavern is where my loyalty lies!
GOTTA LOVE THE TAVERN. best staff ever and a great place to become a regular =) $2 twosdays, $3 thirstdays, and the best happy hour in the marina...drink specials everyday...less marina than the marina.
Singles on the prowl flock to this Cow Hollow American bar and grill..
In Short
The extensive beer and wine list keeps young professionals happy while they window shop for new mates or watch sports on muted televisions around the large, oval-shaped bar. Tables are filled with well-dressed 20- and 30-somethings munching on adequate pub grub while mural of a 1940s jazz scene dominates the wall behind them. Weekend brunch finds Marina locals rehashing the previous night's activities over omelets, French toast and a free mimosa.
