Editorial Review for Peking Village – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
The extensive menu spans Szechuan, Cantonese, Hunan and Hong Kong traditions. Starters include pan-fried potstickers and barbecued spare ribs. Entrees make ample use of rich, house-made sauces, like Kung Pao Delight, a generous portion of prawns, chicken and beef dressed in a spicy sauce. "A Wok on the Wild Side" specials, such as Peking duck and lemon chicken, are prepared using a 3,000-year-old tradition of cooking on a thin wok over an open flame.

I had been to this restaurant quite a few times and even had food delivered & considered all aspects of the earlier 2007 restaurant to be above average. It was one of those "great finds" that you love to take people to. Unfortunately, sometime in fall, they changed ownership, management & worse, the chef. I was assured the food was the same and the menu only slightly changed, however it was too much of a change and the quality suffered as well. I was very disappointed. The earlier reviews that had high marks were all true. Unfortunately, the previous customer was true as well.

Cons: End of 2007 New management, new chef & results went from excellent to poor.

The restaurant appeared clean but I must admit I was rather concerned when I walked in during dinner hours, on a Friday night, to find a single customer eating inside the restaurant. As they were bringing out my food 4 or 5 people walked in, halfway into the restaurant, turned around and walked back out. I'm just hoping they didn't see something I missed that made them turn around and walk out after only seconds... maybe they were thinking the same thing I was when I walked in (re: the lack of customers). The staff was friendly and the gentleman informed me they deliver, for free, on any order over $20.00 and if you order $50.00 or more they give you a Chinese Chicken Salad (I believe) for free. He mentioned how customers boasted about the salad. The food was hot and the portions were slightly larger than average. Sadly, the food was LESS than average. I've tried many, many Chinese restaurants and this comes close to the worst I've been to. The Chicken Fried rice honestly looked like it was a container filled with left overs from many plates, it appeared old and stale, which is exactly how the rice tasted. The Chicken Chow Mein was overly greasy and "blah." It didn't have a good flavor. The Sweet & Sour Pork was okay... The Walnut Prawns were "more than words can describe disappointing;" listed on their menu as: "Crispy prawns and walnuts sauteed and fried in light white sauce." (Which is exactly what they are and should be.) When I opened my container it was fried prawns in one section (the prawns were tasty and fresh at least), walnuts in another section, and white sauce in the other. The walnuts looked raw and the sauce had absolutely no flavor, barely sweet. It looked like extremely thick mayonnaise without the flavor. The Hot & Sour Soup was hot, our toddler loved the tofu, and over all this was probably the best item we ate... it was decent. My family and I personally do not recommend this Chinese Food restaurant and we will definitely not return.

Pros: Cleanliness, Friendly Staff, Fast Service

Cons: Below Average Food
