Delicious and relaxing experience. I was just there with a group of 5 friends. We had made a reservation for a Wedneday night, but there was plenty of space. We were asked where we wanted to sit and ended up with an entire room to ourselves. The food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the porcini ravioli and the mushroom appetizer. The service was very friendly and the ambience was great for a dinner with friends or a romantic meal. Definitely worth a try as I will be going back!

worth the wait!. i almost hate to tell people about this place, since it's one of my favorite restaurants in sf! vogalonga has a cute, romantic space and great food. the lasagna, spaghetti with meatballs and shrimp in lemon cream are standouts as is the fantastic tiramisu. the downside is there's only one chef, meaning everything's made to order, but there's a l-o-n-g wait between courses, so take someone you like!

Best Homemade Gnocchi in the City. Last night, I ordered the homemade, fresh gnocchi in gorgonzola sauce ($10.95) It was BY FAR, the freshest, softest, and creamist gnochhi I've ever had in SF and the sauce was wonderful. The beef carpaccio appetizer is good but the greens they put on it are too bitter and upstage the quality of the beef. The steamed clams appetizer (special) was good. The bread seemed stale, but the house wine, at $18/bottle was a great value. (A Sonoma wine). Ambiance is quite romantic, dimly lit, tiny restaurant, candles on every table, Italian music. In a funky area, nice to visit for a change if you live in another part of SF. Great bars nearby. Great way to start a "date" evening

Out-of-the-way trattoria dishes up pasta and pizza to Mission District locals.. The Scene
With Umbria posters decking the walls, tables pushed together for communal dining, and one friendly waiter orchestrating the whole show, this mom-and-pop eatery is a casual dining experience. Relaxed locals are a permanent fixture, yet procuring a table is never too time consuming. The decor is pure trattoria, with cans of tomatoes lining the walls and well-lit countertops displaying bottles of truffle oil.

The Food
Diners will find a familiar menu of antipasti, pizza and pasta. For a simple, satisfying meal, cracker-thin pizzas, such as the signature Vogalonga pie, with artichokes and prosciutto, are crisp and light. The pastas, like the eggplant ravioli and penne puttanesca, are straightforward, served in respectable portions. Meat dishes, such as veal scaloppine and chicken saltimbocca, are bold and simplistic, while eggplant Parmesan is a gooey mini-casserole in its own earthenware dish. Among desserts, the best bet is the chocolate layer cake.

Good Waiter - Bad Waiter. I'd been going to this place for awhile. However, the last time I went they had a snotty waiter that didn't let me sniff the wine I was buying, poured pepper on my food w/out first asking, and the salmon pasta in paper came without salmon. Don't know if he's still there as I have never returned.

Disappointed. I always walk by this place and wanted to try it.

It's small and reminded me of Italy.

We ordered antipasti, which never arrived.

I orded italian pizza and that's not what i got. Italian pizza has very light cheese and this didn't. Also, prosciutto was one of the ingredients and it there didn't appear to be any.

Our service was REALLY BAD. we waited for about 10 minutes to ask for our check, and about 10 more for our check., when it was apparent that we wanted to leave. The waiter was just standing there, clueless. There were about 10 people total in the entire restaurant. I don't know if this night was a fluke, but I was so disapointed.

Bad service just ruins the whole experience.

a gem in the Mission. Definately one of the best italian comfort foods in town. The server Antonio was excellent and the food was fabulous from beginning to end. Very romantic and great tiramisu. The chocolate cake was orgasmic and the anti pasta was to die for.
