Where You Can Enjoy a Cigar Without Fear of Public Stoning. Need a lawyer? You'll probably find one here. What about a wine broker? Yep. Probably here too. Maybe you just need a nice cigar, a decent glass red wine...or a delicious pig trough sized martini. You got it! Sarcasm to round off your day, from a treasured prickly bartender? No problem. How do they get around the smoking ban, you ask? Every bartender is part-owner, which means no one working is an "employee" at risk for developing what we all know comes hand in hand with tobacco consumption. Cigars sold on the premises are over-priced, but really, they're just there for convenience purposes. You are encouraged to feel good about bringing your own; they'll supply you with a cutter and wood matches--even a sprig of cedar or two. This is your new favorite neighborhood bar, outside of your neighborhood...because they also have a generous collection of delicious scotches and whiskeys that don't all begin with "Glen."
The place if you want to smoke and drink.
Great vibe at this Financial District bar that is a (cigar) smokers dream. The clientel is very cool, not in a hipster way but more of a worldly, "I know whats up" manner. There are a good number of regulars that you can find shooting the sh!t, playing liar's dice or watching sports. Everyone is super friendly so its very comfortable if you're along or with a group. They have a good selection of cigars and cigs at the usual non-tabacco shop prices - I drop by Grant's on Market to get my smokes so I have more for the booze! If you need nourishment, the italian restaurant next door will serve you in the bar. Otherwise the owners will gladly order you a pizza for delivery.
Oh the drink selection is excellent too. Lots of good wines by the glass, some funky odd-ball booze, single malts, whiskey, apertifs, port, etc. And most importantly, they free pour like your grandpa's corner bar.
An old-school Financial District watering hole where smoking is encouraged..
In Short
With its gold-plated ceilings, wrought-wood bar and forest-green walls, this diminutive spot is reminiscent of a 19th-century locale once haunted by stuffy bankers. Top-shelf scotches and brandies are the bar's specialty, but its allure lies in the hazy atmosphere. Nicotine lovers flock here to revel in the freedom of drinking, smoking and socializing at their leisure.
A lovely, smoky little bar....
I absolutely love this bar. I may be the only person in their 20's hanging out here, and the only woman there, but I've gone alone a few times. I know...strange, but I don't really know anyone else who enjoys smoking a cigar and sipping on a martini.
Anyway, every time I have gone I have enjoyed myself.
