In Short – This educational salon offers chairs helmed by apprentice, junior and full stylists, with prices varying accordingly. The high ceilings and light wood floors give this corner salon a light and airy ambience. Customers come from all over the Bay Area for a cut, color, styling or treatments such as thermal reconditioning (hair straightening).

BRUNO COMPIN

by doolittle007

Bruno Compin has been cutting my hair at Festoon for 6 years now, ever since I walked in for a $35 apprentice stylist haircut in 5th grade. Though I now pay him a little more, he's NEVER gone wrong with my hair; I don't really ask him for anything specific anymore, because I KNOW that he's going to make an amazing decision and cut my hair however it looks best.

I had gotten highlights once in 7th grade from him (a time at which I had become the anti-Britney Spears with my subtle yet really age-appropriate color choice), but I recently asked him to give me a full color. Though my dye-virgin hair came out REALLY light, the color mix Bruno picked looks AMAZING. I've gotten stopped at least a dozen times in the past two weeks by people asking me where I've gotten my hair done.

Bruno is amazing! My highest recommendations.

My best friend also gets her pixie cuts from Misha, and recommends her as well. She rocks it well.

  • Pros: Amazing cut and color
  • Cons: Sometimes hard to book

Fashion Pixie Strikes Again

by alapointe

I walk in feeling like an ugly ducking- I walk out of Festoon, beaming from ear to ear, feeling like I?ve been struck by a fashion pixie. Feeling like I could stop traffic makes me happy.

These peeps are hip, friendly and always current with fashion trends. I don?t have to walk in with celebrity photos. With Festoon, I am the celebrity! They cut and colour with me in mind. What more can you ask for?

  • Pros: Professional, Helpful, Bright Attractive Location
  • Cons: Stopping Traffic in Downtown during Rush Hour

Attentive stylists, great colorists, cool place

by qualitycomesatacost

Have the negative reviewers ever visited this salon? Every time I visit Festoon - SF, the staff is super cool and very accommodating. I love the "Can I get you some water while you wait?'' or "Want to try something new?"

My stylist is Melissa and she is super down-to-earth and creative. When I visit I literally just ask her to do what she wants with my hair, and with her sense of style it comes out killer!

No complaints.

I find the space inspiring: the staff is attentiveland they reflect the kind of look I want for my hair -- cool, yet stylish and unpretentious. Good stuff is only expensive if it lacks value.

Festoon, it's staff and product offer great value.

Exceptionally hard to go wrong.

  • Pros: open late, cool folks, good product selection, cute staff, great phone service (they always call to confirm)
  • Cons: Nope.

satchel is tha bombz.

by gregorymc

i'm not trying to be rude, but i think that last review is totally off-base.

satchel has been cutting my hair for over a year, and every cut she gives me is better than the last. she knows her trade, and is well worth the time and money. The salon is hip and tidy, a good atmosphere overall.

do not be led astray by false prophets!!!

  • Pros: bumble & bumble, the greatest stylist in the world!!

Stay away from Satchel! Waste of Money!

by brownieciti

THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE! Satchel was the hair colorist and she was supposed to touch up my highlights. She was not only unfriendly and not a good colorist. My hair was left lookking like I had 3 inches of roots. Overall, Festoon is expensive, run down and not worth the money. The total cost of leaving my hair exactly the same way it looked prior to going was $140.00, I think that a place in the mall would have done a better job than Satchel. I have to say that other patrons who got their hair cut there looked like they got their money's worth. Stay away from Satchel.

  • Pros: Downtown
  • Cons: Satchel
