Spicy curries and unique traditional dishes draw hungry diners to this casual Haight Street Thai eatery, but it's the old-fashioned hospitality that keeps them coming back.. To just order the pad thai, yellow curry or chicken satay at this Upper Haight restaurant is to do yourself a disservice. Yes, the menu offers enough of the tried-and-true Western favorites for any picky eater to have a happy meal, but it's worth a gamble to try the Thai dishes--specifically some of the chef's specials--that you won't find on every other Southeast Asian menu around town: grilled salmon with pear chili sauce and fried papaya, crispy soft-shelled crabs with lemongrass, seafood salad, roast duck in red curry sauce. The flavors aren't as sugar-satured as American Thai generally is, so you know it's legit, and the service is as polite and quietly accomodating that you'd swear you were in a cozy Bangkok cafe (if it weren't for the $15 tab, anyway).

cozy atmosphere. I liked the location first of all. It used to be an apartment and now it is a colorfull, small but cozy restaurant. I tried the usual coconut milk soup with chicken, this one was below average. The coconut milk wasn't completly liquid and the chicken was overcooked, light flavor. I liked all the appetizers, included the veggi curry puff (really greasy though). We had has main entrance a curry chicken which was delicious and creamy. Staff is really sweet.

My family enjoyed this restaurant!. We were a group of tourists visiting the Haight because our father/husband was in the hospital. The noodle place across the street was booked, so we tried this place out. I made it a POINT to search for this restaurant on CitySearch just to give it a GREAT review. Everything tasted great, the servers were good, and we were happy.

Great Thai. The food at Siam Lotus is great and very affordable. The service isn't anything special but the place has a nice, clean atmosphere. This may very well be the best Thai food I have had in San Francisco. But it's on Haight Street so it will take a little while to find parking.

consistently great. When I originally tried this restaurant I was less than impressed, but they've changed something, perhaps the chef. I eat in or get take-out from Siam Lotus at least twice a week now. Their tom yum gai is perfect, tom kha gai is also great if a little oily (so I can't eat it twice a week). Pad Thai is in the top 5 of my experiences -- just the hint of sweetness. The basil chicken is in the top 3. I've tried a few apetizers and they did not disappoint either. If you tried this restaurant before and found it lacking, try again.
