Hidden gem.
Tucked away in an overlooked neighborhood, this is great find. I was exploring Glen Park and came upon this tiny bakery by chance. You can see the staff busy making all kinds of pastries fresh in the kitchen and locals keep streaming in to order or pick up their cakes. There are two tables inside by the big windows and two benches outside. No wireless connection but a great place to read.
I've only tried the bread pudding, which was refreshing and not too sweet.
Will definitely go back.
Best Honest Bakery in SF!. I read about this place in a free paper that gave it "Best of the Bay" status, and wow, were they right! The tartlets are a bit of Europe, the coffeecakes Italian, the cookies American and everything is absolutely wonderful. The morning pastries are some of the best I have ever eaten, especially the chocolate croissant. The cinnamon buns (with or without raisins, yeah!) are gooey and delicious. The staff are friendly and knowledgable, the patrons many regulars. NYT Crossword puzzlers abound. There are even some savory foods as well. Nothing here is made from a mix, everything is made from scratch. The selections are great. If you give them 2 days notice, they'll bake a cake that will be the best you've ever eaten! Tucked away in Glen Park, what a destination, indeed. You must go!
