Not to be trusted.
I wish that I had followed my instincts. In brief, Atlas Van Lines uses Peeters Transportation as an agent for cross country moves (we moved from the bay area to the east coast). We interviewed a variety of moving companies... and despite being turned off by the cheesy sales pitch by estimator Charles Pollex (Marty), we went ahead with Peeters Transportation. Although our cross-country move experience with Atlas (our Atlas Van driver, specifically) was fine, our experience with Peeters Transportion was dreadful.
Marty talked up a BIG game about how involved he would be... how communicative and trustworthy Peeters would be throughout our move. Sadly, I fell for it (even though I was simultaneously skeeved out by his pitch). He said that he would essentially act as a liaison from start to finish to ensure our happiness. Moreover (and this was the big part), he lied by omission when talking to us about the delivery date on the east coast. It's a long story, but we discovered that Marty knew full well that our belongings would not arrive when he claimed they would. For me, the delivery date was the most critical element and Marty clearly deceived us the entire time (he knew that our driver had scheduled a stop that would bring our belongings to the east coast at a later date).
What added insult to injury was that Marty (after all of his talk of trust and communication) was completely MIA during our move. He didn't call and he didn't care about our move once we left the bay area. When we tried to call Peeters for information, they seemed really incompetent and just referred us to the driver of the van for information. So bottom line: it was all talk... and shame on me for falling for his promises and thinking that Peeters Transportation would serve us well during our cross country move.
If I had only known, I would have gone with Crown Movers (agent for United Van Lines). I met with Joe from Crown and he was very pleasant and organized. Frankly, the estimators from Saagan and Mayflower would have also been a better option. I hope that people will learn from our mistake. Avoid Peeters for your move.
