Editorial Review for Through the Hayes – by Lorraine Sanders

In Short
Amid exposed brick walls, hardwood floors and rotating art and photography installations, patrons of this optometry practice and showroom browse stainless steel display cases populated with chic, modern frames from designers like Mikli, Paul Frank, Theo, Oliver Peoples and IC Berlin. The friendly staff, led by official canine ambassador Spreckles, examines both adults' and children's peepers and is always ready with suggestions for the latest eyewear in the most flattering styles.

I can't see, but it's my problem. Yep, I'm crazy. That is what they will tell you at Through the Hayes. Their policies and practices are inconsistent at best. The owner is unprofesional and takes no responsibility for anything that happens in the store. They will not offer an apology or a refund, despite inconveniencing customers who generally get glasses because THEY NEED THEM TO SEE! If you are frustrated, the owner will not care to listen to why you are angry, will not offer to rectify the situation, will not provide you with a refund or a discount, or even offer free lens solution to try to make you happy. They will charge you for a "contact lens fitting fee," but will be angry when you actually expect them to keep their end of the deal, which they say means they will provide you with sample pairs until you are satisfied. If you do actually use the service, they will blame you for using it and being a difficult customer. I have never been in a business who's top priority is not customer service. I have never seen a company that will not rectify a problem that it has created. Why have I not seen that before, maybe because with the glassed I got from them I can't see! My insurance is exhausted, so on top of paying everything I paid for my glasses and contact lens fitting with them, I will have to spend additional money getting new lenses elsewhere. Thanks, Through the Hayes!!! Oh yes, and if you are allergic to animals, keep in mind they have dogs running around, although they claim to be providing a "medical service." I've never been to a doctor that has dogs. Hmm....

Pros: Funky frames, weekend hours

Cons: bad customer service, problems filling prescriptions

They don't know the meaning of customer service. They never stand behind the products they sell or their services. If something is not right or the product you bought has broken, you might as well reach deeper into your pocket. They are good with telling the customer what they must have done to break the product but not standing behind you to the manufacturer. Just remember it is always your fault and the customer is never right. Don't buy into the designer frames or shops.
