Editorial Review for Chateau Souverain, Cafe at the Winery – by Terri Pischoff Wuerthner
The Scene
Visit Chateau Souverain as much for the beauty of the place as for the food. The elegant interior boasts a dramatic fireplace and cathedral ceilings; outdoor dining offers an incredible view of the Alexander Valley hills. Either indoors or out, the ambience is appealing and welcoming. Service is good, and thankfully unhurried.
The Food
The Cal-French menu boasts creative inventions such as focaccia pockets stuffed with roasted vegetables as well as classics like French onion soup. Although some flavors can come off as underextracted, a meal here is recommended, as the food can be wonderful. The wines are all by Chateau Souverain, and carry a reasonable price tag.

Insider Tips
Danko Withdrawal? The cafe earned a fabulous reputation when Chef Gary Danko ruled the kitchen, but he is long gone and a difficult act to follow. Don't despair; Gary Danko has opened his own restaurant in downtown San Francisco to rave reviews.
Power LunchLunch is a good way to try the food, enjoy the restaurant, and see the view for less money than you would pay at dinnertime.
