Editorial Review for Acme Chophouse – by Saida Benguerel

The Scene
This cavernous space adjacent to SBC Park still manages to feel somewhat clubby, thanks to comfy chairs, Belle Epoque-style lighting fixtures and carefully delineated dining areas. The staff comes from some of the most lauded restaurants in town and move smoothly through the room, which is bookended by a lively open kitchen and an even livelier bar.

The Food
There's something charmingly retro about a big wedge of iceberg lettuce doused in creamy blue cheese dressing, especially when it's done as well as it is here. Crispy shoestring fries are some of the best in town, while creamed spinach is a revelation of finely chopped greens glazed with heavy cream and a hint of nutmeg. Two outsized double-cut pork chops, the butcher's steak (which changes daily), and the tender rib eye should send any meat eater into ecstasy.

When to Go

If a game is sold out, or you just can't get tickets, this is a great place to watch the action on TV. Monitors are located throughout the bar and dining room, and since the restaurant is in the stadium, you can still feel the energy of the crowd.

Party of eight, all had steaks, even the short ribs dish was too fatty. This restaurant is way over-rated. We will never go back. Only saving grace were the side dishes, but how difficult is it to make tasty mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes or macaroni and cheese?

Pros: Close to Cirque du Soleil

Cons: Food quality and prices

The food was terrible...the steak was lousy and the pork chops were raw in the middle. The gazpacho appeared to be nothing more than a can of tomato sauce dumped in a bowl. Even the salad was bad--the greens were bitter. The service wasn't good either. Very disappointing.

Pros: atmosphere

Cons: food quality
