Editorial Review for Grasshopper – by Stephanie Laemoa
The Scene
Decorated with Southeast Asian prints and furniture, Grasshopper looks more like a shiatsu spa than a renowned South Park salon. Whether you're getting your hair washed in the back room among exotic plants, getting your ends snipped in the sunlight-drenched main room, or relaxing on the second-floor balcony, the atmosphere is always soothing and unpretentious.
The Services
Perplexed by your unruly hair? Stylists are educated weekly on the fine points of hair care, so your tresses are in good hands. Besides haircuts, you can choose from a variety of coloring options: color retouch, semi-permanent color, partial highlight, full highlight and color correction. Services won't set you back a fortune, and you'll leave feeling refreshed and renewed.

I was in desperate need for a make-over and stumbled upon Grasshopper salon on CitySearch and decided to go check it out being as I was in the neighborhood. I needed a same day appointment and the receptionist scheduled my appointment with Sarah Scherer. Sarah was very personable and really listened to what I was looking for. My appointment began on time, she offered me a beverage (always appreciated) and she started working on me. She corrected my color (it's dark, but I retouched my roots myself, a No No I know!) so the roots didn't match the rest of the color (they were lighter by my own doing!) she covered the lighter roots and made the whole color match up. Then she took my medium long hair and cut it shorter (only after giving me a booklet with various styles to look at and choose from) once I decided, she said she agreed with my selection, she admitted that would have been her suggestion to me, had I not picked out that style myself (so we were on the same page!) The salon is simply decorated but very relaxing/layed back. The front desk person was attentive and personable as well. I would highly recommend Sarah to anyone that is looking for a good cut or color or both! The only bad thing is I was unaware of the salon's strict policy on not adding gratuities to the credit card(and I only had a few bucks in my wallet, certainly not enough to leave my talented stylist/colorist, so know before you go, visit an ATM machine before going or deal with a potentially embarassing situation like I did. I will be back to give her the gratuity in cash!
Pros: Personable, welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, skilled cutters and colorists!
Cons: Cannot leave tips on credit cards, that's it!

I decided to try Grasshopper and to see the owner as a I had been searching for a new hair stylist to replace my Ohio hair Goddess. A friend of mine had been seeing the Grasshopper owner for some time and my friends hair always looked nice. I had seen a few stylists in the city and instead of a pretty natural looking blond, I had a lot of red high and low lights. It was not good. My appointment started on time. The owner spent a large portion of the appointment on her cell phone making her dinner plans. In the end my hair was green (khaki versus hunter.) She was expecting me to come undone and for her to have to stay and correct the problem. When she saw the color I heard her call her friends and cancel dinner. I did not pitch a fit, but said fine and left. When I left, I had no idea how long the green color would haunt me. It was a very uniform green. I had a ridge of that color that could be seen for more than two years (until I had a chance to see said Ohio hair Goddess.) Beyond the immediate tears and such that come with a hair disaster, I had a lot of time to regret ever stepping foot in the salon. I would not recommend anyone that values their hair to visit this salon...unless green is the color you seek.
Pros: None
Cons: Green hair and years to remember the bad salon experience
