Editorial Review for Bacara Resort & Spa – by Gayot.com
The Scene
This lavish destination resort opened its doors in 2000 and instantly made a favorable first impression on in-the-know, spa-loving travelers. Its name comes from a combination of the city's namesake saint and the Chumash Indian word for mirage, and its style is a cross between Spanish Mission and breezy California contemporary. As for the setting, it doesn't get any better, tucked between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains on a cliff just north of Santa Barbara.
The Details
Each posh guest room in this white stucco sanctuary offers ocean or mountain views. The pool area and surrounding 78 acres provide plenty of romping ground for the resort's beautiful guests. A round of golf, a hard day of guided hiking or a dip in the surf is even more sublime when you know you've got a vast wine cellar (over 500 wines) and Frette linens waiting for you back at the hotel.

The restaurants could use some improvement as far as service and quality of food. We had some ok to not so good food here at the hotel. Because it is so far from downtown, there is really nowhere else closeby to go eat. We had dinner at their Miro restaurant which was such a bad dining experience.. no atmosphere, unusually quite and the wait for the food painfully long. It took almost four hours for a three course meal, in which half of our party left before the third course. Eight hundred dollars later, I left hungry. The pool is beautiful and the service by the pool I found excellent, but overall a disappointing experience. This was my second stay here and I think my last.
Pros: the pool, good facial
Cons: the food!!!

I was brought to the Bacara Resort & Spa by my significant other on a surprise weekend getaway for my birthday and it was breathtaking! The service staff was very very attentive and catered to every single little thing we needed....rides around the property, making dinner reservations, spa appointments, hiking appointment, and horseback riding...u name it! This place was truly the perfect place to get away from the noisy, fast-paced city (we are from Los Angeles). The entire weekend, I was so relaxed and catered to, I didn't lift a finger or had a bad thought. Their two restaurants serve great food and drinks! The pool area is gorgeous with the beach yards away. I think the courteous and warm staff makes all the difference in our experience. We have stayed at very nice places before but staff with their high-and-mighty attitudes ruin it for us most of the time...However, this was never the case at Bacara. Their spa was so-so...only because there isn't much more relaxed u can be while being on this property. :o)
Pros: Beautiful property, beach front, lots of activities offered, wonderful service, caring staff, well worth the money!
Cons: Parking is automatically charged to the room every night.
