Best Turkey Pastrami in the universe! – Have been looking for a good, lean corned beef sandwich in the bay area ever since I settled here in 1987. Unfortunately, I still haven't found it. First thing I tried at East Coast West Coast was their variety. Although it was lean, it was chewy like a steak. Thee rye bread was good, as was the cole slaw, but won't be ordering this again. Tried the tuna salad, and this was a pleasant surprise. The thing that keeps me coming back is the turkey pastrami. It is by far the best EVER and I make regular trips to ECWC Deli to partake. TRY it, you'll LIKE it!!
sad sad black and white cookies – Take the black and whites out of the fridge! It makes them too dry and stale. They should be moist and cake like. They look great, but if you see them in the fridge - PASS! I loved the Ruben. Monte Cristo was aiight. I've had better. Cole slaw and pickle rocks!
Great Reuben – We love East Coast West! Their Reuben is by far the best I've tasted in SF for the price. The prices at East Coast West seem high but after receiving your meal you understand why. The sandwiches are huge! If you want cheap go to McDonald's or Subway but for a sit down place their prices are reasonable. Last time I was there I had the fried chicken and that was also excellent. My only complaint is that the service is inconsistent. When they get busy they seem shorthanded (even then the service is slow but not enough to make me stay away).
Just Good Enough for Deli – Not NYC or LA deli, but decent for SF. If you must have Deli, this will definitely hit the spot. Not remarkable, but 10x better than David's or Max's. Some of the food is outstanding at times, but is definitely inconsistant. Delicious, fresh Borscht one day and bad soup the next. The corn beef seems to be re-heated on the grill - the meat is fatty enough to survive this unorthodox method of preparation, but they would fare better by serving leaner cuts of corned from a hot/wet serving deli. This place is as good as Deli gets in SF, but they could be better if they tried. They'll only improve if another Deli opens up and can do it better - not likely.
Eat at East Coast West – A diamond in the rough. This deli is clean, service is friendly, and the food is delicious. And they have all details down! It's rare to find something so close to New York out here in San Francisco. And NO, all you transplanted New Yorkers (myself included) -- it is NOT exactly a New York Deli. That's why it isn't called "New York Deli" but "East Coast West." It has the flavor of California presenting the best of New York.
Great Food – 4th visit, still outstanding food, service, friendly staff,clean and bright. Whitefish salad is outstanding.
LOVE IT! – I LOVE east coast west! Best chopped liver you can find outside of the lower east side.......And, their brisket is amazing too...........
Everyone is so nice there....I always enjoy bringing friends!
This is no 2nd Ave. Deli – Just relocated to SF from Manhattan, and let me tell you, this is NOT the real thing. Corned beef was mediocre at best, pickled herring was poor, gefilte fish very bland and they were out of chopped liver. Matzoh ball soup and challah were good in all fairness, and the people were really nice. All in all though, not impressed.
One sandwich feeds three! – The food is superb! The selection is fantastic! The service is friendly and attentive -- even for take-out! A winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best Matzo Ball soup in SF – Next to Grandma's, East Coast West's got the best Matzo Ball soup in SF. Great soup to battle a summer cold.
