oh...MJ – Excited as I was to finally be in a Marc Jacobs space, I was absolutely horrified once I stepped in. The coldness and over-staffed staring made me feel like if I wasn't ready to drop 5k, why bother. There was only one of everything on the sale-rack in this small stuffy space, and the sales associates were more disinterested than helpful. Maybe after a few college classes in consumer confidence I will venture back, because I absolutely adore what he does.
The Louis Vuitton designer shows off his side projects: edgy designs for young ladies who lunch. – In Short
Jacobs creates edgy ensembles that have matured beyond his mid-'90s grunge stage. Now the Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton, Jacobs favors a more thrift store-inspired look for his own lines, Marc Jacobs and the lower-priced Marc. While he may draw inspiration from flappers in one season and rockers the next, what remains most consistent are his elegantly tailored coats. This is a good place to shop if you're gearing up for winter, or just a typical foggy day in San Francisco.
Chic - But Not Trying Too Hard – Marc Jacobs quite possibly could be the epitome of San Francisco's vintage clothing stores. Athough small, the Maiden Lane boutique is filled with everything you could want or imagine, whether it be frilly, prom-inspired dresses, vibrant shoulder bags, or ecclectic pumps and flats. Throughout the years, the boutique has gained enormous popularity between tourists and locals alike, mainly because every season you can go in and be submerged in totally different styles of clothing again and again. One season the collection could be inspired from the 50's, then grunge, then futuristic minimalism, or simply the bustling streets of New York City. This surprise factor draws in many, flocking to the store to buy Marc's great jackets, inventive blouses and shoes, and modern t - shirts and sweaters. Although a great store indeed, many choose to not go in and purchase, because Marc, as many designers today, chooses to use fur in many of his seasons' designs, and we all know how awfully those animals are treated before they are made into clothing. We all hope Marc, and all designers, kick their fur habit!!! Nonetheless, the detailed Marc store is filled with great ideas and chic, hip clothing, despite the unfortunate fur!
