The Scene – This sprawling bar-restaurant is much bigger and cleaner than an average sports bar--but it's still okay to throw peanut shells on the floor. Museum-quality, black-and-white sports photos hang on the 30-foot-high walls. A whopping 28 TVs--including five plasmas and a massive 122-inch screen over the bar--are mounted throughout the main room. Past the salad bar, a game room holds pool tables and video games. – – The Draw – Due to its location, Knuckles is routinely filled with visitors and families. The main attraction is unmistakable: sports. Groups of…

Didn't expect much - pleasantly surprised

by osspeak at Citysearch

We are from Australia, and were staying at a hotel down the street. Great hotel, but food in the restaurant there did not suite us. So we decided to try “Knuckles”. We almost didn’t as the reviews commented fairly negatively, but it was close and we could not find anything that looked more suitable, and my 94 year old mother does not like to walk to far, especially as San Francisco appears not to be the warm place that we imagined.

The service was excellent. We were immediately shown to a table and 3 separate waiters hovered around to ensure we had everything. Orders were taken as soon as we were ready to give them. We followed the order takers advice of sharing a combination BBQ and a couple of sides between the 3 of us. We really needed a couple more volunteers, because this “Order for one” could have stopped 4 people. The 3 of us could not finish it all, but it was first class. The price was also quite reasonable. My old mum commented that she thought it was the best food we had had in the US, and we have been here 2 weeks, in Boston and now San Francisco, and been staying in very upmarket hotels. So as far as food, service and surroundings, we had no complaints.

It was a bit unusual in that the room was festooned with flat screen TVs, all on different channels. Mainly sports, so I can see why people commented that it was more like a Sports Bar. We were lucky in that there was something interesting on one of them, so it didn’t bother us. The only thing that did, was the Heavy metal type, intrusive “not so background” music, which we all considered very inappropriate and somewhat annoying. Otherwise, we were very pleased. Sufficiently in fact that we decided that we would go back there for breakfast the next morning, before we fly out.

Sports bar that is part of a hotel chain

by wclast at Citysearch

Based on the lack of service this restaurant must rely on tourists. The service was truly terrible. After sitting at a table for 15 minutes without seeing a waiter I got up and complained to a waiter about the lack of service. He told me that if I didn't like it I could leave. I took his advice, rather than ordering food I had one beer and left to find a real sports bar!

Love the Angus Burger

by hhutcherson at Citysearch

If you are a fan of great burgers, check out the Angus Burger at Knuckles! It was Great! Order along with a draft beer, very satisfactory. With all the televisions in the place you are able to catch all of the playoff action. Checked out the Spurs game the other night! Love the atmosphere and the bartenders.

Warning: Not really a sports bar

by samrado at Citysearch

It hurts to even think of this family restaurant as a "historic sports bar." If you?re a dad looking to take the kids to an overpriced dinner and get away with watching some sports, then this place is for you. Don?t worry, you will fit right in. Also don?t worry about your wife catching you looking at the waitresses, unless of course you are into little Asian ladies in there mid fifties. If you?re looking to watch some sports, have some wings, and get boozed up while a hot little waitress with some double D's exploding out of her shirt serves you beer, then please take my advice and avoid this location.
