True Bard aficionados celebrate summer in major parks around the Bay Area at this free outdoor festival. – In Short
Since 1983, SF Shakes has been expanding like Falstaff's belly. Cloning itself madly, the organization not only presents a free comedy at various Bay Area parks every summer, it also produces a tragedy or history play in Lone Mountain's huge Gershwin Theatre each fall. In recent years the organization has even hosted productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Under producing director Charlie McCue, the company boasts a healthy mix of emerging talent and polished pros.
