Rubs you the right way. I have been to Refresh quite a few times. It is a great retreat in the city, so much that it is a birthday celebration tradition with my friends. I have my favorite masseuse, which I will keep to myself (sorry). The colors and warmth of the spa relax you right away, the tea is great to sip, and the sauna feels great after your massage. On one occassion, a front desk staff person was rude, but I think that you can get anyone on a bad day. All and all, it is a great way to relax and of course refresh.

Disappointment. Disappointment! I go to spas pretty frequently, probably every other month. I've been to Refresh day spa twice. Both times I decided to go because my mom had gotten me a gift card for my birthday. I'm sad to say that I was disappointed during both times that I've visited the spa. But I'll start at the beginning. The front desk staff was nice, helpful and warm, and the environment was also very nicely decorated. The locker rooms are nice, but they don't really provide much amenities except for the sauna and steam room. They provide you with a hair dryer, but no brushes. I found this a bit weird. They also provided Q-Tips, but nothing much else. I was also disappointed by the fact that, considering this is a spa, the shampoo, conditioner and body gel was very generic and did not have a fragrance at all. I expected something more scented and fragrant. But oh well. The lounge where you wait for your services was very small and not very relaxing, but luckily, I didn't have to wait long for my services in their lounge. My first experience wasn't all that great. I was greeted by my therapist Sarah, for the Hawaiian Salt Scrub with Kukui oil massage. The service was alright, but my therapist didn't seem to have much of any reactions to me. She didn't say much except "Hi, I'm Sarah" and rarely smiled. Her sullen reaction to me made me feel a bit uptight from the start, making me feel like she wasn't excited about her job. The room where the scrubs are performed was very nice, with a long moving shower that they run all over your body to remove the salts with. That was a very relaxing experience. However, from this moment, on, I was very disappointed

Great massage, clean and comfortable spa. I've gone to several spas in the city looking for the right massage experience, and I finally found it here. I've been getting massages from Jordan for about six months now, and he's a great therapist. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the spa itself is clean and well maintained with just the right amount of amenities. My only complaint - I wish they had separate waiting areas for men and women.

I've seen other reviews indicating unfriendly staff, which I've never experienced here. I've also seen comments about it being overpriced, but what Refresh charges for a massage seems to be the going rate at any spa in the city with facilities (showers, sauna, steamroom).

I haven't utilized any of their other services, but if you're looking for a good massage and overall relaxing experience, give Refresh a try.

I can't wait for my next visit to Re:Fresh Spa. From the moment I walked in their door, I knew my time at Re:fresh would be special. I arrived a few minutes early and received royal treatment from the first moment. First to the changing area to receive my locker, robe, and massaging sandals, then a quick tour of what was available before my treatment started (sauna/steam room/showers). Then on to the Relaxation area where you enjoy complimentary tea and/or cucumber water as you read or just chill until your therapist comes to lead you to the next area where you will receive your services, my experience was was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. The knowledgeable staff answered all of my questions and were able to assist me in finding just the right products. Thanks Re:fresh staff!!

Looks can be deceiving. This salon looks very nice but is overpriced and low quality. I had a leg and underarm waxes that were incomplete and uneven pedi/mani's. The leg/underarm waxes were done poorly and were painful--not something I've experienced before. My pedicures lasted for a month, but my nails were uneven. My manicure lasted less than a week! All the 'spa' includes is a shower, a dry and a regular steam room, and complementary hot tea.

MY FACE WAS ON FIRE. The deep cleansing facial left my face raw, chapped and blotchy for days. Thinking that it would clear up, it didn't. More than a week has passed and my face has healed, but now I have red blotchy spots on my cheeks. I though that facial were supposed to leave you radiant. On top of that I wanted my eyebrows waxed, but my esthetician failed miserably. It took her over 30 minutes because she kept struggling with the stringy wax, and by the end, my brows looked exactly the same -- not any cleaner! Well, at least she seemed like a nice person.

Bad Customer Service. I am a regular spa customer. I must say that Refresh offers the worst customer service. The front staff can care less about their customers and they are not very knowledgable about their treatments and products. They do not go beyond service to make a customer happy or would like to see repeat business. I have visited Refresh a couple of times and I must say that this is my last. There are many other spas in SF that appreciates their customers.

Frequent User. Having been to re:fresh on numerous occasions, I truly enjoy this spa. Although tucked away on the outskirts of the Tenderloin, there is a decently safe parking structure right next door.

The therapists can be hit or miss at times but overall I've experienced great service. They are unpretentious and stealthy; They blend in with the background so that you can truly enjoy your experience. Most are well trained--I've experienced massages (various types), facials, manicures, and pedicures.

Definitely arrive early so you can enjoy a cup of tea or take a quick hop in the steam room or sauna.

User review by ashoppergirl. refresh is a really beautiful spacious spa - you feel instantly better, and calmer as soon as you walk through their doors. fantastic services, and well-trained staff. i've had their facials, massages, salt scrubs, and nail services and have never been disappointed.
