Editorial Review for Matt Davis and Steep Ravine Trails – by Eric Rorer

In Short
The upper stretches of this wonderful seven-mile loop contour along the western flank of Mount Tamalpais, providing stunning Pacific Ocean views that stretch north to Point Reyes and south past San Francisco to Pacifica. The hike also includes a stop-off at Stinson Beach, an excellent spot for a picnic lunch. The final portion of the hike goes through Steep Ravine, one of the most beautiful redwood canyons in California.

A ravishing hike with a wide variety of landscapes. The first part (from Pantoll) was mostly downhill, through live oak and meadows. We were tired when we got to Stinson, but had a great time lolling on the beach and snacking on fries and ice cream from the beachside snack stand. Then we did the Steep Ravine part--absolutely beautiful, shady, mossy-ferny glades. A long hike, but worth it! Stopped at the Mountain House Inn on the way back for a beer on their deck--watched the moon rise over the East Bay. A perfect Bay Area day!
