Assorted pastries, pizzas & breads at this worker-owned, neighborhood bakery can become an addiction. Fresh fruit coffee cake is a must try.
Dee-licious!. This tiny co-op bakery is a wonderful spot for baked goods. Most of the pastries are self-serve, displayed in plexiglass cases. The selection is not very large but what they do have is fantastic! I grabbed a pecan roll and a coffee ($3) and sat by the window. The roll was loaded with nuts and raisins, the pastry was coated with a delicious sticky brown sugar glaze. There is not much seating so more than likely you'll have to get your snacks to go. Service is friendly, employees are also co-owners. I heard the pizzas here are fantastic, the flavors rotate daily and they are available at 11:30am. A great spot to grab a quick bite, savory or sweet!
My favorite bakery!. Pizza menu changes daily. One of my favorites is topped with carmelized onions, ricotta cheese and basil pesto. Just the thought of walking into the bakery filled with delcious baked goods and happy neighbors gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.
average at best. The scones at Arizimendi are definitely tasty, but the bread is frequently undercooked. I used to live near Cheeseboard (Arizmendi uses their recipes) and their baguettes were consistently perfect. It seems like Arizmendi concentrates on pleasing the average American's sweet tooth instead of the perfect loaf of French or sourdough, which I find much more appealing.
Great sourdough!. The seeded sourdough baguette pieces are a perfect balance of chewy exterior and moist interior--great to take home and use for sandwiches. In the morning, there is nothing better than a warm brioche knot with raisins. mmmm....people who work there are friendly. It's a great place!
Do they ship?. I lived a block away from Arizmendi until 1 year ago and I have dreams of the Oat Scone. Yummmm! It's the perfect place to pop in for breakfast, snacks, or dinner. The half-baked pizza always was a great meal. The prices aren't the cheapest, but it's well-worth every penny. And it's not some corporate Starbucks where the money gets eaten up in ads. The negative review MUST be from a competitor!
arizmendi sucks. I know that it's one of the few bakeries in the city, but they aren't really a bakery, they are a mediocre baked dessert place. Their cookies, scones, and muffins are passable, but their bread is frequently undercooked and not flavorful. They really shame the reputation of their sponspor.
It's like coming home!.
I was there for 4 days; by the 4th day everyone knew my name. Arizmendi is like coming home to visit family only they make you food, really good food. Everything is baked daily, and its out of necessity as nothing makes it to the end of day. As fast as they make it, we eat it! While its known to have the best sourdough bread in SF, its loved because of its amazing service by what I would call the happiest bakers on earth and by its daily pizza. Nothing beats an Arizmendi pizza - well maybe 2 Arizmendi pizzas.
While walking down Irvine, I saw this happy man on the street; two women had just walked past and waved at him. I heard them talking about how he worked at Arizmendi - the chefs are soo good, people even know them by face on the street!
yummy chocolate bread!.
I have visited this bakery many times and have never been disappointed!
The food is always fresh and is amazing. The best bakery I have found in the city so far.
For chocolate lovers there is a chocolate roll. It is a regular bread roll filled with chocolate chunks! YUM.
The pizza is also amazing, again the best I've found in the city.
The staff is friendly too.
