A San Francisco institution for a reason, this place is amazeballs. It's got it all: fun atmosphere, fabulous food, potent drinks, and friendly staff. It's the perfect spot to bring out of town guests to.

overpriced and TERRIBLE service. I've been here twice and don't think I'll ever go back. The food is completely overpriced for what you get. Also, the first time I went, my sister ordered a pomegranate martini, which a friend told us you can get there. The waiter said promptly "No problem." When the bill came, we realized he had charged us $17 for that ONE DRINK (our friend later told us that's ridiculous - she was charged maybe $8)!! The second time I went, we were a group of five going for dessert late at night. Perhaps it was because we were not considered high-spending customers but it was seriously one of the WORST service experience I've ever had in the city. We were "reprimanded" by a waiter for wrongly asking him for help when he's not our waiter and also our own waiter messed up our orders.

Now playing: Great Experience!. Foreign Cinema hides in an old unmarked run down building in a somewhat scary block. Definitely plan to valet - even if you have to sweet talk the valet attendant as we did b/c he didn't want to accept our car as he said the lot was full. Our group of six was ontime and were seated promptly and our waiter was excellent. Good knowledge of oyster selection and savvy on the wine list. Some menu items were gone (9:30 Sat night) but the hostess/manager dropped by to apologize. The food was outstanding with everyone's order perfect and satisfying. The desserts were simply sinful. Noise level is a bit loud - but it was a busy evening. Didn't catch the foreign flick as we were inside - have to return and check that out. Thumbs up - great overall experience.
