Editorial Review for G Bar – by Daniel Liszt
The Scene
This small, sophisticated space makes the most of its L-shaped layout. Bathed in dim purple and tangerine lighting, rotating artwork hangs on most walls, including above the cozy, three-person nooks to the right of the bar. When it's crowded, the chic, stainless-steel counter in front of the bar is a good place to mingle. Further back, a designer couch--crowned by a space-age sputnik lamp--sits in front of a faux fireplace, which is sparsely peppered with sand and rocks instead of firewood.
The Draw
This is the only bar on the block and fills a void for young, attractive Pac Heights locals. It also draws a steady stream of hotel guests unwinding after a day of site-seeing. The martini-centric drinks are well mixed by friendly staff, and DJs or live musicians set the pace nightly with eclectic sounds.

Cozy, classy, clean, hip bar. Good service, decent drinks. Younger crowd. Busy or slow it’s a good place for a relaxing time and a good drink. Good music and/or DJ’s. When the crowd arrives it’s busy and cramped and a good time to meet and mingle. I’ve been a bartender for 7 years and I like the place. I don’t bartend here or know the bartenders personally. I do have to say a quick thing about bar etiquette, based on other reviews, (sorry). Indeed every night’s situation is different. If a bartender isn’t polite when closing the bar, that’s unprofessional. But also consider, some or all the customers are intoxicated and sometimes requests to exit the bar are ignored which means the bartender must become ever more firm in order to empty and close the bar –there are serious fines and legal consequences otherwise. Everyone understandably wants their drink as fast as possible, NO ONE likes waiting. Credit cards and tabs, rather than cash, considerably slow the process down. So on a busy night, do yourself, your fellow bar mates, and the bartenders a favor by paying in cash or by leaving your credit card open until you’ve bought your last drink. If you’re afraid you’re going to forget your credit card, then just pay in cash. When it’s slow this all shouldn’t be as much as a concern. Lastly, it’s the law that a bartender verify that each drink ordered is going to a customer of legal age. When the bartender ID’s you, take it as a compliment and that he/she is a professional. Worst case scenario, if a sting is in effect and the bartender serves a minor, everyone in the bar could find themselves being questioned and maybe searched by the police, everyone’s drinks are taken from them, and the bar is closed on the spot and everyone is forced to leave immediately. Now that’ll ruin your mellow! A good bartender will try to look out for everyone’s best interest. Help out the good bartenders and they’ll recognize it and help you out. Now enjoy your drink.
Pros: nice atmosphere, decent drinks
Cons: on the small side when it's crowded & busy

This bar has nice ambiance and decent drink menu, but it really takes the prize for the worst customer service ever. We stopped by this place on Saturday, and we were literally kicked out by the bartender. He was rude to the customers and around 11:00pm he told everyone to clear out of the place (the bar’s working hours on Saturday are 6pm to 2am). His exact words were "clear the place.. I got other places to be at…". Avoid this bar.
