The Scene
The Garden Court location is what makes tea at the Palace so special. The huge, plant-filled room was originally the hotel's carriage entrance, a legacy that lives on in the high, glass-domed ceiling and the circular layout of the room. The marble columns and ornate crystal chandeliers add to the feeling of history. This is a popular spot, full of tired tourists and little (or not so little) kids celebrating their birthdays.
The Food
There is more than one choice for afternoon tea, depending on how hungry you are. The "Champagne Tea" is the most luxurious of the bunch: scones with clotted cream, rose-petal jam and lemon curd, your choice of assorted pastries and fruit tarts, finger sandwiches and a glass of champagne.

Hostess is a bit of Tarnish..
on an otherwise spotless experience. The scones, rose petal jam, and sandwiches were fantastic and the waitstaff charming. The gorgeous glass ceilings and harpist gave the afternoon a warm glow. However, on both entering and exiting, my friend and I felt harassed and condescended to by the hostess. I'm not sure if this woman is so rude to everyone, but with so many other lovely hotels in the area, she certainly made me eager to try a different one before returning to the Palace. If you should give this a try, the valet parking was worth it, at only $10 for 3 hours.
