Yuck!. B44 fell flat on its face New Years Eve. All SF restaurants should be embarrassed for B44. THE FOOD. B44 came close to ruining Paella for me forever. To describe the rice as deep fried salt pellets coated in oil would be kind. I stopped eating rice and went for other ingredients, I bit a mushroom that if it had been scraped off the bottom of an oven it would have tasted better. THE SERVICE, the server took 10 minutes to greet us and then said Youd better order everything at once or else it will take forever at least he was honest. When I informed the manager that the quality was poor, I was nice about it too, he did not make any attempt to apologize or redeem the restaurant. Im sure B44 has its good days, but Im not going to risk trying it again.
best street for lunch during summer. i think all the restaurants in belden are awesome. i like b44 for their garlic shrimp, for people watching, and to be in a unique environment. belden lane/b44 has a european flair, and a touch of n.y. style. eating casually and watching people watching other people is fun.
Unforgettable Dining Experience!. I coordinated a Holiday lunch for 24 employees from Visa... we were treated like royalty. Ambiance, location on Belden Place made us feel like a fantasy escape to Europe. Decor is festive, warm, inviting... upscale but relaxed. Food was SO tasty and unique. Meal started with appetizers served family style(SO GOOD!) accompanied with sparkling wine. Main course entree selections were all to die for but B44 Paella was the BEST!- served piping hot, authentically home made. Excellent Spanish wine menu. Desserts were HONESTLY the best I've ever tasted so save room. Service was 100% first class and attentive. This is not your typical, predictable, good food boring restaurant that will be forgotten the next day. The entire dining experience exceeded expectations. I've received nothing but rave reviews from attendees.
paella portions a JOKE. Okay, am I weird or does everyone else join me in expecting massive amounts of food when ordering paella? Man the portion was so light that you could see the pan through the thin layer of top rice. When the waiter brought the lil, teenie weenie personal pan out to me I laughed out loud and asked, "is this it?!?" Avoid this place if you're hungry. Go to Zarzuela if you really want paella. This place is designed for the happy hour crowd and people with fufu appetites.
barely ok.
My husband and I ate at B44 this last Friday night and were a bit dissappointed. The app's we ordered were very tasty; marinated anchovies with pears and cheese and the salted cod fritters, although the fritters were mostly potato than cod.
The most disappointing part of the meal was the paella we ordered. I mirror the sentiments of the previous reviewer who was disappointed in the portion size. I had the B44 paella and I could literally see the bottom of the pan. It was however tasty. My husbands paella was a huge let down. He had ordered the Parellada but the waiter brought the vegetarian paella. It was bland, and mushy. When we pointed out the mistake to the waiter, he shrugged. He did offer to bring the correct dish, but by that point it was not worth it. Will I go back? No.
AMAZING-TOP 10 MEALS OF MY LIFE. The moment I finished my last bite, I thought to myself, " Hands down the top ten meals of my life." This place was amazing. It starts with the walk down beldan place, an alley that reminds you of europe. Then the restaurant, with wonderful ambience designed with just the right touch. Then the service--with a smile, (good work Zack), prompt, good knowledge of the food. And lastly, the food- perfect. Definite recommendation for those wishing to go to Spain but can't afford the airline ticket.
Great Spanish restaurant!. This restaurant was a hit for our family. We had the lamb meatballs (a dinner special) and the baby squid with fennel sausage, both as appetizers. We all had seafood--the halibut, the ahi, the monkfish and rock cod--and it was excellent, especially the monkfish. Everything was flavorful and rich. We were however, disappointed with the serving portion of paella, which would have realistically fed only one. But the friendly service and sexy atmosphere here cannot be beat!
Great Tapas for Lunch. Great lunch spot for tapas. Very flavorful prawns, excellent jamon serrano, wonderful mussels and an endless bucket of bread to soak up the sauces. Good service. Crowded and a little pricey but good overall lunch experience.
Nice atmosphere, poor food.
Ate here Saturday night on vacation. Pleasant outside environment along with 4-5 other restaurants along this restaurant alley.
Now the food. I live in NJ outside Newark and eat paella all the time in genuine Spanish and Portugese restaurants as well as several trips to Spain and Portugal. B44 say they specialize in paella so I tried it. Their version is what I would call fast food paella. Mushy rice, bland seafood, prepared on a skillet. Very disappointed with it and for $20 I expected more seafood. Reminded me of fast food paella I had in Spain once for $5. Nothing like the real thing.
My wife's dish of monk fish and seafood was much better. Waiter surprisingly didn't recommend the sangria which I found surprising so we did not try it. We would not go here again. Try one of the other restauants on this alley first.
Okay, but not great. Was very excited about this place until I waited at bar. Waited 20 minutes for an expensive drink and didn't get my change back! Food was a step up. The jamon serrano is like butta. Paella was a bit disappointing--greasy & salty. Seanyboy's steak was tender, juicy, good. Service was so-so, but it was crazy busy. Living in Spain for a year, I expected more of this place. They're right on with jamon and sangria, but everything else was very average.
