Neo-hippies and piercings be gone; leave the traffic jam outside and escape to Mediterranean-style fare in cozy surroundings..
This restaurant is sadly under-frequented, considering it's one of the few places in the neighborhood you wouldn't be ashamed to take your parents. With a patio so lovely, you'll forget you're in the middle of the upper Haight.
The food is described as "Persian-influenced Californian," though it's hard to detect those influences in the Mediterranean-esque menu. Featuring organic produce, the food at Zare is well-prepared and innovative, and the service is efficient, friendly and gracious. At times though, the dining room feels out of control and the food is lackluster. Zare is, however, worth a chance--Sunday brunch in the backyard can be an otherworldly experience.
Great food, horrible service. The food and atmosphere were great. The service was another story--and not a good story. Our waiter started out strong and then literally disappeared. We sat down at 8pm and entrees didn't show up until about 10pm. Then it took them 30 minutes to process our bill. We tried to give constructive feedback to the manager and she only had excuses for us. She was defensive of her waiter and kept telling us that the kitchen was "really backed up" yet we noticed that the restaurant was pretty empty. We won't go back based on how she handled the situation.
Consistently good. My friend and I have been here several times in the past year. In addition to recommending Zare to friends we have taken guest there. I hav'nt been to their brunch yet as it is sometime hard to find parking int the Haight. Very nice durring the week.
Intimate dining at its best!. This is hands down one of the best secrets of San Francisco Dining! I've been going there for about the last 8 years now, and it has only gotten better and better. As a matter of fact, my fiance and I had our first date there. The owners, the wait staff, the bussers, even the owners' young daughter! are just really great, personable, kind people. And the food? Exquisite!! You can't go wrong. The smoked chicken linguine is an all time favorite, along with the lamb and, well, just about everything on the menu. You can't beat the backyard patio atmosphere for romance or just a quiet dinner with a friend, with its lush greenery and red lighting . Please go, check it out. You won't regret it.
Great everything. This is one of my girlfriend's and my favorite spots. Don't be put off by the empty dining room if you go there on a weekday - everybody is in back on the patio. Just go ahead and walk back there and someone will seat you underneath the heat lamps. The place is charming, and food is excellent. A couple of reviews on here spoke of bad service, but I can only say that I've never experienced anything but first-rate attention from the wait staff. Highly recommended, especially for a date where you want to impress, but not overpay. It is moderately expensive (dinner for 2 with wine, dessert, tip around $100 - $120), but not overpriced - the quality is definitely there to justify the price.
A Restaurant Gem. I don't get up to San Francisco too often, living in the south bay. However this weekend while visiting a friend and perusing the Haight district we wandered into this wonderful restaurant!!! From the appetizers to the entree's.. I was completely floored. Absolutely delicious! Not to mention the wine we had was uncanny. I highly reccommend it to anyone!
Breakfast was great, nice outdoor patio. The best thing about Zare is the outdoor patio. The wind is blocked by the surrounding homes so it wasn't too cold, plus they have heaters. The food was very good (I had the eggs benedict) and it wasn't too crowded.
atmosphere dining. Great place to eat dinner any night. Atmosphere very romantic. food great with service to match.
Caprese Sandwich!. Cute little spot with outside dining! Nice to get off the dirty streets into a cute backyard and eat not only caprese salad but in a sandwich! Great find.
