Best Pizza in Peninsula. I am a big pizza conisseur and love this place. Have been eating here for 6+ years and still consider it my favorite pizza place in the penisula. I love the Menlo Combo and Los Altos pizza.
Creative toppings that break Pizza monotony. *This review is just for the express pick up of pizza only* As an out-of-towner to Menlo Park, tried the pizza based on reviews and liked my "unusual" pesto pizza w/o the red sauce and not a lot of cheese. My friends who like the "classic" taste weren't too keen on it but as long as you get the flavors you like (plenty of classics to choose from as well as the creative ones), it's a tastier, healthier alternative to the chain pizzas. Crust however was just "OK." I like super crunchy crusts and this one was a bit too chewy for me. Will go again, however, and try some other combinations.
All the pizza is above average. Applewood makes a decent pizza in a pleasantly run-down atmosphere. There's no wood firing, no tandoori chicken, just good ol' pizza. The crust is neither thick nor thin, the sauce is pleasantly tangy, and with counter service there's little waiting. The selection of beer is german-only, but unusual B-grade German beers.
Peninsula residents flock to this Menlo Park pizzeria for its soft, doughy crust and wild topping combinations..
In Short
Young couples, families, and celebratory softball teams gather around pies with nontraditional fixings, such as the Hawaiian with a decadent mix of Canadian bacon, ricotta cheese and pineapple, and the Santa Fe with Southwestern chicken, green chilies, salsa and jalepenos. Diners not in the mood for pizza can choose from a selection of salads, pasta and soups, or they can skip dinner and go straight for the Sweet Dreams dessert pizza.
A "10" any way you slice it!. This is the BEST pizza I've ever eaten, and I'm a long-time New Yorker, though I grew up in the Bay Area. In fact, I framed a menu and hung it on my office wall in New York City so I could remember how yummy it tastes! It's not just the interesting combinations of toppings that make Applewood pizza so delicious--it's the bread dough! I could eat the crust all day long, with or without pizza sauce. It is the best tasting crust EVER, easily beating anything New York can produce. It's has the perfect texture and just the right thickness. It's the first thing I ask for when I come home to Menlo Park!
