Editorial Review for Luna Park – by Saida Benguerel
The Scene
The dining room, with a busy kitchen and an even busier bar, is a hive of activity. Friends, including those newly minted, cluster around the bar waiting for an expertly muddled mojito delivered by a relaxed waitstaff. Amusement-park regalia and quirky fixtures add charmingly retro overtones to the homey space.
The Food
The menu is a fun-filled ride through a variety of continental, Mediterranean and American classics. Signature dishes, such as a starter of melted goat cheese served with crisp apples and croutons, and a dessert of make-it-yourself s'mores, are brought to the table in mini-chafing dishes. These high notes bookend comforting main courses, such as an herb- and Gruyere-stuffed pork cutlet, joined by zingy green beans and creamy mashed potatoes, and a French-inspired charred flatiron steak accompanied by crispy frites. Brussels sprouts and cubes of squash are caramelized with heaps of butter and brown sugar into nuggets of solid-gold goodness.

They add a healthcare surcharge onto your bill along with a note saying that they are proud to provide healthcare to their workers. I think that's great. What they don't tell you is that they are actually suing the city over the new universal healthcare program. I hate to think that they are using my money to take away people's health care .

The thing I love about Luna Park is its versatility, as it doubles as a somewhat intimate, dimly lit restaurant ideal for a date as well as a classier bar to visit with a few girlfriends. This place feels lush; and it's not just the velvet cutains. The food is reasonably priced and well-seasoned, but my favorite part was the dessert: even though the s'mores were messy they provide a good laugh, and the apple pie was divine. Service isn't the quickest, but it's to be expected on a busy night.
Pros: Ambiance
Cons: Parking
