In Short
A venture from the owners of nearby Absinthe, this Hayes Valley cafe specializes in Provencal and Mediterranean dishes. There is a small dining room and a gorgeous garden patio out back. A grilled bacon, cheese and pear sandwich headlines the lunch menu, along with salads such as fava beans with manchego cheese. Specialty snacks include house-made potato chips and tiny cornichons. Deserts feature a limited selection of refreshing ices and sorbets.

Cafe Arlequin is a yummy lunch spot in Hayes Valley. Their sandwiches are more sophisticated than the usual turkey or ham and are made with fresh ingredients. The interior is rather cramped but don't be fooled; if you are not getting it to go, enjoy your food on the large, foliage-filled back patio. It's tranquil and relaxing. Good espresso and they have daily specials: we got the calamari special and my kids loved it. We have not visited since the recent renovation but can't wait to check it out.

It's unusally warm outside and my colleagues and I discovered Arlequin after a search on this site. Arlequin has a great patio in back that allows filtered sun in through beautiful trees in a garden setting. We dined on chicken caesar salads and the lamb burger. Everyone was pleased with the food and dining experience. Also, an excellent wine shop attached to the deli that is worth a second look.
