Not allowed in. I just moved here 2 weeks ago from Texas. My friends and I had been in for an hour and left to go check out some other bars. When we came back, the doorman checked my ID and didnt believe it was me and then told me they can only take California IDs. I am 29 and my ID looks like me. The doorman would not allow me in - would not allow me to speak to a manager and then told me: "Dont trip and fall walking back to your car" - I couldnt belive how rude he was - aggresive and threatening. I dont plan on going there again. Be sure you have a California ID if you visit.
A slick Castro bar styled like a "Barbarella" lounge for the boys..
The Scene
This popular spot attracts a constant flow of young and usually upwardly mobile gay men ready to flirt, drink and mingle. The quilted, shimmery-vinyl walls, cocktail tables suspended by shiny brass stripper poles, rich red lighting and upbeat dance music make it a plush destination that's built for cruising, with just a touch of Vegas.
The Draw
The Bar is known for three things: decor, music and boys. The adjoining (and enclosed) smoking patio is also popular, allowing patrons to watch the street-side eye candy. This place is more about flash and chitchat, less about hiding out and deep conversation, though there are some dark back corners. Happy hour (daily 5pm-8pm) features 2-for-1 well drinks and $2 Buds.
COuld not get in. I was visiting from another state, went to the Door and Had my ID that looks like me and the Door Guy would not let me in, He said I needed another Form of ID. and would not let me in. But the Night before I got in, He even let me in, so dontplan on going here if your a out of towner
Loungie and Hip. The transition of "The Bar" on castro from what it previously had to offer is fantastic. Very cozy and comfortable for having an after work drink or if your out and about visiting the various Castro bars. The music tends to be house and lounge mix. The new decor is very welcoming, and the staff is even more inviting. I recommend "The Bar" as a great place to start your evening while visiting the Castro!
only place in the hood with decent music.
This place has been making an interesting transition over the last couple years. When it first opened the crowd was predominantly of the younger generic types (think lots of black clothing and "Friends" haircuts), and the smell of cologne some nights was overpowering.
It seems to be undergoing a very long series of rennovations. Supposedly they're moving the DJ booth to the back of the room to open up more space soon. The overall ambiance is a lot cooler with the glowing red color scheme that appeared recently. The sound system is possibly the best I've heard in a venue of this size.
Hot Men, Staff & Music. If you're not looking for Castro Clones, this is the spot for you. Hot men, bartenders, and great music makes for a great atmosphere. Go it alone or with friends, you won't be disappointed.
very trendy among the cheezy divas!. The place is good during the week, but avoid the place on the weekends. The music is the only saving grace, but the crowds are bunch of clones.
good place for a beer. fun, generic-y spot to grab a beer on your crawl through the castro. decent looking crowd.
