In Short – This bar and lounge occupies the entire 39th floor and consists of two large rooms, each stuffed with chairs and tables strategically placed in view-friendly spots. There's a piano for live jazz and a gigantic, semicircular, jukebox-shaped window in each room offering views over the Bay Bridge (to the east), and Twin Peaks and City Hall (to the west). Specialty cocktails include the Raspberry Cookie--Vox raspberry vodka, Jägermeister, butterscotch schnapps, Bailey's and Goldschlager.

Editor's Tips

When to Go:
There's a different guest singer each night, so you'll get covers of everything from Alicia Keys to Diana Krall.
Parking:
Try the garage at Fifth and Mission streets; every two hours costs $4, with a $20 maximum.
What to Drink:
There are 14 bottled beers available--a wealth of the usual suspects, plus Pyramid Hefeweizen and Chimay.

One of my Favorite places

by Flexnit at Citysearch

I love this place. I think it is simply magic and the only reason I return to stay at this place. I would recommend paying for the corkage fee and bringing you own bottle. The martinis are yummy too! A must stop for anyone in the bay area

The View is to Die For

by ChelleintheBay , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch

Whenever I have company, ususally my first stop is The View. Especially on a clear day/night, the view is breathtaking. That alone gives it 5 stars. Then you add some mellow music or some nights, dance tracks and one of the BEST sidecars in the city and you have hit the spot. I try sidecars everywhere I go and The View has stay consistant and delicious EVERY time. Then a few years back they changed their menu to a more indo/asian faire and I fell in love all over again!! I've been here for happy hour, to meet a group, or just to hang by myself on a personal night. I must say, it's a SF Gem. It can actually be a real fun night when tourist have a few to many and spontaneous dancing erupts(COMEDY!!! )

They USED to have a wonderful Asian Fusion menu!

The menu has changed to "American" cuisine & is BORING.I can make a better turkey club sandwich @ home! It loses a star for that!! My sidecar has never been better though!!

great view of the city, pricey dinks and slow service

by msmith34852 at Citysearch

I was staying at the Marriott that View Lounge is located within, so we stopped here at the end of several evenings during out stay. The drinks were good when they finally came, although quite expensive. The view is beautiful as expected. It's great for a drink or two and the end or beginning of your evening but not someplace I would stay at night. Definitely recommended if you're staying at the Marriott.

  • Pros: the view!
  • Cons: slow service, expensive drinks

Slow service, nice view.

by sanfrangrrl at Citysearch

It's all about the view from the top. Drinks are average, but pricey. Service was pretty slow even though the place wasn't crowded.

  • Pros: View, View, Valet parking
  • Cons: Service, Unvalidated parking

Nice, except for service

by tommypickle at Citysearch

I used to always love coming here. Sitting on top of the world, looking out at San Francisco. It's the reason I ended up moving here from my home town ...

The drinks are great, it is always very quiet and romantic.. but the service is terrible. Everyone seems completely rude whenever I am there, friends who come visit from out of town get dirty looks when asking about the beer menu or any question beyond placing your order. Just a very very cold environment. Makes you feel unwelcome.

Still, I come here with friends, find a table, talk.. and have a great time. But we never expect service or to become "regulars". Definitely not that type of place.

But the view is great and the drinks are of good quality. Bring your own company and walk up to the bar.
