The Maxfield Parrish painting which gives the bar its name is not the only reason to visit this wood-paneled bar: the drinks are well made, strong, and classics all. Soft surfaces keep the overall bar feeling calm and sophisticated even when it's full.
Not a mural, but a famous, large-scale painting by Maxfield Parrish once graced the wall. While it is returning to the hotel, it is not yet confirmed whether it will return to the bar. But we all hope it does.
This Olde English-style martini lounge inside the Palace Hotel has been serving superior drinks since 1875..
In Short
The Pied Piper has been the epitome of American classic for more than 125 years. The long mahogany bar, marble tables and mosaic-tiled floors saw their share of stock deals back in the day, and are still home to much wheeling and dealing. The crowd is almost entirely suit-and-tie--half in town on business, half doing business daily in the nearby Financial District. Folks come for after-work martinis, gawking at the gigantic Pied Piper mural hanging above the bar.
