Editorial Review for Charles Lee Tilden Park – by Caitlin Morrison

Overview
Tilden is especially busy during the summer, but the park remains a much-visited destination year-round. Green grass and wildflowers beautify it in the springtime.

Features
The park is brimming with myriad recreational areas, among them a golf course, a pony-ride area, a petting zoo and a miniature steam train. Don't miss the Botanical Gardens or Lake Anza. Tilden's Herschell Spillman merry-go-round is a splendid antique carousel and rides are available on weekends and some weekdays. Picnicking is also popular, as is camping and hiking.

This park has something for everyone. Hiking, swimming and lots of shade just to rest and enjoy the atmosphere. I used to take kids from my summer program here. Free parking, huge areas to play and although we had to pay for swimming it was worth it. Great staff and very well supervised.

Pros: free, great parking, lots to do

Only visited briefly, just to sneak a peak at some of the views, but this park--and the whole chain of parks and public lands behind the Berkeley and Oakland hills--is a breathtakingly beautiful local treasure. Golden California hills, quiet lakes, redwoods, and Bay views make for top-notch hiking and relaxing.
