In Short – Crafters and seamstresses explore four floors of floor-to-ceiling shelves lined with embroidered silk, Italian wool, Chinese brocade, Japanese batik, and bolts of cotton, crepe, velvet, suiting, skins and delicate lace at this elegant "grande dame" of textiles. The third floor features more than 30,000 notions, from antique buttons to tassels, and bridal materials are on the second floor. The store prides itself on excellent customer service and consultation, though no actual tailoring occurs here.
Good selection and friendly service - if you're a big spender

I'm from New York where I could walk into nearly any store in the garment district and have a competent, friendly staff member listen to what I needed, tour the store with me making intelligent recommendations, and haggle over price. The staff at Britex could take a few lessons. They were surface-friendly - offering assistance at first, but when I described what I needed, just a couple of yards of a specific inexpensive fabric, you'd think I was a leper. At least I was sent to the right floor. I felt like I was immediately categorized as "small-time" and not worth the effort. A bad business practice - I'm a big fabric spender who happens to be working on a small project at the moment.
The selection is pretty nice - floor after floor of well-organized fabric and craft materials. If you can't find it elsewhere, chances are, you'll find what you need here. But it is all incredibly overpriced, if you're used to comparison shopping for fabrics. So if you're desperate, have searched everywhere, and don't mind emptying your wallet, Britex is the place to be.
- Pros: Selection, organization
- Cons: Price, service
