Editorial Review for Hotei – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
It's clear that Hotei is run by an experienced restaurateur. The Asian waitstaff is deferential and friendly, the simple Japanese-flavored decor is appropriately understated and the authentic food is priced to sell. But above all, amid the dark-orange dining room's noisy bustle, the place hums along at a hyper-efficient pace.
The Food
Don't expect updated flavors or fancy Asian fusion cuisine. Despite the inviting ambience, it's still just a solid, no-nonsense Japanese noodle house. Thirteen styles of udon--thick, gooey, neutral-tasting rice noodles--are served in a lightly salted broth or pan-fried and piled high on a large plate. The ramen noodles, thinner and firmer than the udon, come mixed with meat, vegetables or egg. The tori soba, perfect for cold winter nights, is a simple but pleasing noodle soup with chicken and green onion.

Know Before You GoAs the sister restaurant of popular sushi house Ebisu, Hotei offers a truncated menu of sushi items in addition to noodles.
The ExtrasWith tofu starters, vegetable dumplings and plenty of meat-free rolls to choose from, Hotei is great for vegetarians.

This place has the best noodle soups anywhere. Perfect for a cold day or when you just want something comforting and delicious. There's a wide variety of different soups, noodle dishes, and sushi as well. The ingredients are fresh and delicious, and you can't beat the prices. The sushi rolls are also very good. Love it!
Pros: Soups, Sushi
Cons: None

I came here because of the good reviews also. The price is good for what I pay for. However, seems like the waitress are pretty not that nice... to their own people. They serve the White folks really well... Jessh, I wonder why? However, only one or two waitress was doing that. The environment was dimming and its a really nice place to have noodles. The sushi, however, wasn't as great. I love the choices and their specialties... but it doesn't taste as great as I expected them to. So my over all experience wasn't as delightful. But I will go back again for sure just for the noodles itself, and possibly try more of their sushi selections.
Pros: Price, Noodle, Cozy environment
Cons: Parking, Service
