Tips for San Francisco Opera

Yes, I love the opera!. I love the opera house! It has a wonderful old feeling. If visiting San Francisco, go there, and you can't miss. Everything there is first class. They have the very best shows, the very best costumes, and the performers are always top notch.

Every year pretty close to Halloween, they also sell their outdated costumes to the general public. You can really get some great bargains here since they have some of the most incredibly elaborate costumes.

They're fantastic all around. Yes, I love the opera!

A home for one of the world's most renowned opera companies.. In Short
What was already a world-class company got a world-class showcase in 1932, when the War Memorial Opera House became the home of the San Francisco Opera. The building bears a resemblance to City Hall because they were both designed by Arthur Brown Jr., also the architect of Coit Tower. Seismic retrofitting following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake provided an excuse both to update the building and to restore its splendor.

Standing Room Tickets. My wife and eye learned that we could get standing room tickets to the Opera for just ten dollars. Even if we had had to stand for the entire production it would have been a very enjoyable evening and has to be the best entertainment bargain in the city. Just arrive about an hour early and go to the side of the opera house on Grove to buy the tickets. Early arrival means you may get the preferred orchestra level spots that let you lean on a shoulder high wall at the back of the hall.

We were given $155 seats by a couple who left at intermission. Your luck may vary!
