A historic hotel situated near lots of trendy boutiques..
The Scene
Built in 1869 as Sausalito's first hotel, this property has also served as a town hall and as a hospital for victims of the flu epidemic of 1919. It was restored to its original glory--and function--in 1995. It is within easy walking distance of the marina, which is lined with exclusive shops and galleries. As well, numerous seafood restaurants are a pleasant stroll away.
The Details
Each of the nine elegant suites is tastefully done in cream and beige. The ambiance is romantic, a mood that is thoughtfully preserved with TVs and VCRs hidden inside armoires. Some of the rooms feature panoramic views of the bay and San Francisco skyline, and most come with spa tubs. In addition, a few enjoy the added luxury of garden terraces and fireplaces. A continental breakfast is served in the morning, and wine and cheese in the afternoon.
Romance. We wanted to go away for the weekend but we didnt want to sit in traffic to get out of town. My Husband suggested we take the ferry to Sausalito and stay in a Bed and Breakfast. We love the Gables Inn. We stayed in a modest room with a fireplace and Jacuzzi, the staff was very helpful and accomodating. We walked to Scomas restaurant and ate dinner on the water. During the day we hiked the Marin Headlands and Tennesse Valley. We had a very relaxing and romantic weekend.
