I've been going to Perry's for years and always get great help from the sales people. I do various types of model building and I'm always surprised at the variety of hard to find materials and tools they stock. They also do a terrific job on picture framing.
- Pros: friendly, knowledgable service
- Cons: closed sundays
Awesome Service

I'm not sure if the other reviewer is thinking of the same store. My chiropractor is next door so I have been there a half dozen times over the past few months. The staff, including the incredibly friendly owner, the selfsame Perry, have been helpful above and beyond what you would expect from a retail business. I don't spend an ungodly amount of money there yet I have been treated without condescension as a peer and a valued customer. "This is what I use..." and "this is the most affordable option" will often be heard in their recommendations. At a time when small businesses are taking it on the cuff, I think it is worth my time to make sure that excellent businesses do not take a bad rap. Just for the record, I have no monetary or personal interest in the business. My local artstore is in Mill Valley-- talk about lackadaisical customer service...
- Pros: excellent customer service wide selection
- Cons: smallish store
lots of supplies; disinterested employees

I think a good art store is one in which the employees seem interested in your work. They can at least ask a few questions to see if there is something else they can sell. The many times I've been in Perry's buying markers and sketch pads everyone seems disinterested and detached.
On the plus side, Perry's does have a lot of supplies for the working artist. And, it is not a chain store.
