In Short – This bleak, but beautiful, beach is a moody spot plagued with rough surf, wild winds and towering waves that form seemingly out of nowhere. Cursed with a dense great white shark population, the area is unsuitable for swimming, but it's a popular spot for thinkers to sit and absorb the priceless scenery.

Cowgirl Creamery, Pt. Reyes Beach
by angelagross
The drive through Marin to Pt. Reyes Station and on out to Pt. Reyes beach makes this day trip enjoyable in itself. If you're going to the beach, stop in at the Cowgirl Creamery for a sandwich, a bottle of wine, and some cheese to nibble on. And, if you make it a whole day trip - stop back into Pt. Reyes Station in the evening and have dinner at the Pinecone (across the street from Cowgirls) - fabulous organic food!
