Editorial Review for Cafe Reyes – by Stephanie Rosenbaum

In Short
The open, airy room is flanked by an outdoor patio ringed with hay bales that face the surrounding hills. Big patio umbrellas inside and out promote a colorful island feel. Diners place orders for Cal-Mex favorites at the counter, including burritos, tacos, and enchiladas. Plates arrive ribboned with crema, accompanied by warm red tortillas and wedges of fresh melon.

Just a wonderful place to dine for lunch or dinner and easily among the best pizza in the Bay Area. Rustic, authentic Neapolitan-style pizza made from scratch using fresh, high quality ingredients and baked in a roaring wood fire oven. Geat local oysters, organic salads, soups and all very reasonably prices. They have really found a winner with their new menu. The bad news is that it may now become very difficult to nab a table at Cafe Reyes on sunny weekends, especially when summer arrives! Simply a great addition to Point Reyes Station.

Pros: Pets allowed on patio, child friendly

Cons: None

Can't believe someone beat me to a great review for this place because, as I understand it, Cafe Reyes only recently started offering wood fire pizza - just in the last week or two if I correctly remember what the owner told me. Whatever the case, I agree 100% with the previous review - outstanding, fresh artisan pizza at a very reasonable price. It's clear that this Cafe is shooting for classical Neapolitan style pizza given their use of Caputo 00 flour, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh pulled mozzarella and 800F+ wood fire oven, a regional food trend that seems to be gaining huge popularity in the U.S.and the Bay Area. Personally I love this style of pizza but it's not for everyone, especially those hoping for Pizza Hut or the like. But if you are familiar with and enjoy Neapolitan style pizza (think very thin crust), I believe you will very much enjoy what the Cafe Reyes is trying to do. In my opinion they are definitely on the right track as far as capturing this very elusive pizza style is concerned but have not completely nailed it just yet. However it's clear that the effort, vision and commitment to quality is there so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they soon became one of the best in the Bay Area. Frankly, I find it amazing that they have been able to produce such a great pie in such a short period of time - this style of pizza isn't easy! Add to this the fact that the Cafe Reyes is located in beautiful Point Reyes Station (South end of town) , has great outdoor seating, great views, allows pets on the patio and it really becomes a no-brainer IMO. But be warned - all eateries in Point Reyes Station often get absolutely overwhelmed (read packed) with diners during beautiful weekends, especially beautiful 3-day weekends. So service and attention to detail can sometimes suffer.

Pros: Great food, great ambiance, fun spot

Cons: Gets extremely crowded on beautiful weekends
